well even though im only in my early 30s ive always want a nostalgic done drag car, i think they were just the coolest things in the 60s with the names on the sides and the odd paint schemes. even though im a buick lover at heart, and was really thinking about doing a early to mid 60s skylark or special with a bbb in it, i just happened to get a rolling bodied 67 malibu. its a very solid car, but its missing all of its guts. no interior of any sort or engine. it has all the body panels, glass and already has a 12 bolt rear end in it. im thinking this would be a dam easy car to make my creation out of. i have some sbc's laying around i could use even though a big block would be cooler. i would love to here some of the guys who were around in those days suggestions. im kinda thinkin old school tunnel ram, maybe a 4speed, old school torq d wheels or maybe dog dishs of soarts, 6 or 8 pt cage, not sure what they did for seats back then weather they used racing seats or what. any input is welcome.

Of course trends probably occurred and died at different times across the country but I don't recall any 60's cars with names on them...on the other hand I remember lots of 50's cars with things like "Lil Angel" and a few puffy clouds on the rear fender....neighbor had a 55 or 56 Chevy with just that on the powder blue fender...I thought it was the coolest thing to see...that would have been about 1960/61. I think name painting on cars died in the very early 60's...at least I don't remember seeing any after then.

Went to HS 64-68 and remember nobody painting anything on their muscle cars. But Mopar certainly created wild (at least in name) colors...eg Plum Crazy Purple, Panther Pink, Sub Lime, Lemon Twist, etc.

Regards, Bob

most of the ones i found were in the early 60s i agree, but when i see the pics of like the old ramchargers cars and the sox and martin cars and others like that i just think they are cool. i realize that later on everthing started to change to funny car bodies like chi town hustler and mongoose. i guess i just think that era of racing is interesting.

Yes...I agree. I thought you were referring to the "tail art" of the 50's on your own ride. The 60's sure were good times for a car guy to grow up in. I have a vivid memory of sitting on my hood (Dad's 58 Olds) and looking left and right at the friends cars parked on the same row at our local hangout...Roadrunners, Super Sports, GTS, Mustangs, Chargers...I even thought at the time that this was a special sight :)
