i just put in my motor again after i blew my head gasket and i figured my tranny had 218,000 on it and it was shuttering everytime i leave the light i needed to put another one in there the one i put in was out of a 68,000 mile gn even though it had a few gallons of water in the tranny pan it had not rust so i put it in the shifting in it is awesome it just about barks 2nd gear third is pretty intense also but it will not shift into over drive has anyone heard of anything like this? any comments on what i should look for ?

thanks in advance
tim

Possible 3-4 shiht valve, 3-4 throttle valve sticking, 4th piston leaking or clutches burned, 3-4 accumulator leaking. :(

what can i do

what can i do if its sticking is there anykinda chemical to treat it that i can us do you think the lucas tranny stuff will work or a flush or trans x. what other chemicals?

thanks
tim:rolleyes:

Nope

And if it had as much water in it as you say, it is doomed.

you can put ANYTHING you want in a auto trans BUT water. Water is the liller as it eats the glue off the clutches and bands.
No and's if's or but's. If it had water in it , it is DOOMED!!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is the TRUTH!

Like Bruce said, it's not long lived, and may be why it won't shift into OD now, if the 4th clutches are shot from water would be the same as being burnt. :(

what do you think

ok i am wondering what you think if it will help if i change the valve body out do you think that would help or what please reply i think i am going to try that do you know where i can get some gaskets for the valve body and such at????
thanks
tim:confused:

The last thing you want to do is just start changing parts, that is like grasping for straws, you need to find out what is wrong and go from there. If the water you had in it has damaged the clutches, nothing short of a rebuild will help. The best two places you'll find to get help from is PTS in Sac. CA. and second is SE Turbo in GA. contact either one of them and they will be able to help you. here's the links.

se turbo

i know all about se turbo its 20 minutes from my house dana is a great guy and all so is paul but i just aint go the $$$ to do anything right now maybe i can figure something better to do i know a guy that will rebuild my tranny for 800 but i aint got it for now pretty soon i might but for now i guess ill just live without od

thanks

well finally i got it to shift to od

hey fellas the other day well a week ago it started shifting into od i was so happy when it did it but then 2 days later i think the front pump went out on it. the car started whining and stuff wierd thing and a clinging noise from around the converter. then the car in od started reving it self up while i was on the throttle so it was going then al of a sudden it reved up and starts moving again a few seconds after that. now i am going to take the 2 transmissions that i have and take them and get the made into one good tranny maybe even a shift kit. i know i need to swap the shells of and maybe a few other minor parts but i think it will get my car back on the road again.

My problem is kind of similar. Mine will only shift into O/D if I let off the gas or get it up to around 3500-4000 rpms. I played with the tv cable and got nothing. I was told I needed to replace the valve body. It is the tranny out of my 85 GN and has Bruce's shift kit. Great kit by the way.
