Wed. I went to NTB to order some ties for my new wheels. Thurs. morning I droped off the wheels, the tires wern't going to be in till the afternoon. Wed I specificall told them to put the weight's on the rear of the wheel when they were going to balance them. Thurs. night I went to pick up my wheels. Thy FUC***g put the weights on the front:mad: Scratched the Hell out of the, and When I made them take the weights off, the lip on the back side of the wheel itself has chuncks taken out of the wheel. They must of hammered them on so hard to do this. There was accually chuncks of the wheel itsef gone. Sure enough there was no Manager on duty last night. This morning I went there for blood. He told me they put the weights on all the wheels in the front. Now I'm talking about aftermarket, not just stock steel. Now they are giving me the run around.  So what's next? Do I call my lawyer, or give them a day?????????

Lawyer??? dude they're only wheels, chill out a lil and then talk to your local magistrate to see what direction to go in.

That sucks. That's why those clowns make $6 an hour. When I had tires mounted on my GTA wheels I was right there babysitting the guy doing it.Call me paranoid, but I think their policy is "We're to dumb to be responsible for any mistakes" Although you haven't talked to a lawyer, did you threatened them with a lawyer? They will try to weasel out of it,maybe offer some in store credit or something but not close to the value of the wheels. Good Luck

Why should I chill out? I don't have a money tree like you do.. So if I go and scratch up your nice wheels, I could tell you to chill there only wheels..The whole point is I told them not to put the weights on the front. And they did anyway's. And they don't want to do anything about it?

Read this , then E-mail them..

They say contact them with your problems and promise satisfaction guaranteed, so let them have it.
My Mom got back $500.00 from GM by E-mailing them about her car.. (Dealer screwed up). :)

I used to be a crew chief at NTB. Yea, sometimes they hire some screw ups. Alot of the techs don't know that they have different weel weights for whatever wheel you have and they also try to put steel weights on wheels that are not steel. I usually told them to get it together or get the hell out. Sounds like they put the wrong wheel weight on there because it shouldn't have scratched it. I know that is not what you wanted in the 1st place. The sale person should have also written on the ticket as well. Should have left them on there and then show the manager that they f$$$ up. Well next time, tell the tire shop you want a static balance w/ stick on weights. And make sure they write it on the ticket. Sorry to hear that. I always worked on the nice stuff cause I knew whatthe hell was going on. You will get your money back. Don't worry to much. You bitch enough to the manger, you will get what you want and then some.

That's what I did, I sat there and watched them do my 7k mile TTA wheels on my car. he ended up putting some plastic or rubber coated wheel weight on the rim..didnt leave any marks. Kid was pretty good. Had a nice lookin stang, claimed it ran 11s

Yeah they used regular steel wheel weights, for a Billet aluminum wheel.

A well-written letter to NTB via TwoLane's link should get you a new wheel. If that fails, call the local TV stations, the "COmsumer Lawyer" people. And/or have a lawyer write them a threatening letter.

like i said chill out, take a breath. you're still alive right? You can't make can't take a good approach to the situation pissed off. A company of that size will most likely take care of your situation. It'd be a little worse if the put a huge dent in a fender or something.

Besides, if you purposely scratched MY wheels i'd have to open a can on you. They were trying to do their job but they f'ed up, give them a chance to fix the situation before you feel you were f'ed over. You don't have to jump right into legal action but you do have several avenues for example you local "better business bureau". Mistakes happen, $6.00 techs gotta make a living too, right? Me having the cars i have don't mean i gotta a money tree anyway. i'm 23 and i make $7.50 per hr.

Lastly, not to be a d!ck but if you are worried about apperance don't even put weights on the wheels, i have aluminum wheels and i left them off cause they look unsightly on a nice wheel.

You can always camp out at their front door with your damaged wheels and tell each customer coming in on how they damage wheels. Do it on their busiest day, bet that might get them to make amends.:D

I thought about not getting them balanced, but I would have some trouble I think at the top end of the track at 120 mph.:)

I understand your frustration but putting the weights on the inside AND outside is the ONLY correct way to balance a wheel accurately. All the other methods will only get you close but not on. Even the stick on weights suck...after a while they fly off.

Be patient yet persistant and they will take care of you.

To keep the stick on weights from flying off I always put a THIN coat of clear silicone over the weights and onto the wheel around the perimeter of the weights. They stay on without any problems.

I understand the best way to balance in from the front. I made some calls today to other wheel/tire co.'s They all said the same thing. They ****** up. Every co. I talked to said they use a special coated weight for Billet alum. wheels. If they did that I would probibly not of minded. Even though I wanted them on the back. The Manager never called me back today. I called at the end of the day, Of course he could not talk to me. The kid told me he thought he heard they were odering me new wheel's but they wont be in for 6 to 8 weeks. Should I leave it at that or bitch a little more? 8 weeks? It took me only 3 day to get them . But again I never talked to a Manager.

Manager, smanager. You've given him his chance to make good. And 8 weeks ain't acceptable.

Phone back, tell whoever answers the phone that if the manager doesn't return your call the next call will be to the consumer affairs dept of (your state) attorney general. Betcha that'll light a fire.

Recently I was having trouble on my first phone call when I was trying to return some GTA wheels they sent me 1 ½ years ago with the wrong back space. I was getting nowhere then I politely said that I didn't think they'd see it my way so I'll get an opinion from the California Attorney General's office.

UPS picked up those wheels on a call tag and I got a full refund.

MAKE WAVES.

There are really only 2 ways to balance a wheel: static and dynamic. Dynamic is the most true way to balance a wheel. The inner and out rim:up and own/ side to side balancing. The static way is the inside only. Yes, it is not the best way but it takes care of the side to side motion. Or it could be up and down motion. Been a long time. To not balance your wheels, especially on a daily driver is down right stupid. I have only seen 2 wheels that were perfectly balanced w/o putting weights on. Unbalanced wheels can put a hamper on your suspension parts, not only it could shorten the life of the tire and maybe even warp the wheel. Now, I did get some rims that I could dynamically balance using the stick on weights. I put both of the sticky weights on the inside of the wheel. Hard to explain in words but it is possible to do. Oh ya, stickys won't work unless the wheel is clean. Make sure they use their alcohol cleaner on the wheel when they put the sticky on Kinda like starter fluid. One other thing, they have only one style of steel weights but many different styles of the aluminum weights. And yes, the aluminum ones will have like a shiny coating on them. Basically it is a steel weight w/ paint on them. I know all wheels aren't aluminum but they have a certain type of wheel weight that goes on it. I just call them aluminum wheel weights. Also, last thing, if the manager doesn't do anything for you, you call the district manager. I promise, you will get what you want. All store managers were scared as hell of the district manager. HTH

Not NTB but the morons at the sears (I only use them to mount and balance the tires) screwed up a set of expensive original Porshce 17" Carrera Cups.

Thanks alot morons, I have used the mounting and balanceing machines beofre and could of done far better then those morons.

And at goodyear tire center another hick messed up another Porsche whell of mine when he placed the center on and trie to slap it to knock it in and it slipped and made a nice little gouge.

Thanks alot

Yea, Sears owns NTB.;) When we were out of a certain tire, we would go to Sears and get them. I guess it is a it or niss w/ tire places.

Only use stick on weights. If the rim is cleaned as mentioned, they will stick. As the wheel rotates, the weights are forced against the rim anyway. The only thing that will cause them to lose grip is a caustic wheel cleaner which you won't use anyway. If you really want to be sure, clear weatherstripping tape is available also and a small piece of that over the top of the weight will ensure that it won't fly off. I would rather pay to rebalance a wheel that to have to replace or refinsh the wheel. Not to mention the PO'd mood that you get in because of a screw up.
