I have been told on the TR's there is no such thing as numbers matching. Is this true? Why?
Just curious!

I think they mean casting numbers. True to a point. To me matching numbers mean 109 block,8445 heads,BRF trans and a 8.5 axle. Than you have different levels like the correct part number turbo and little things like correct plug wires. I could care less if the VIN is stamped on the motor and tranny as long as you can see the important numbers. I hate to see us turn into the whine and cheese crowd like the Corvette and Shelby guys.

Numbers matching means just that, numbers on all parts match(casting numbers and vin numbers). A car without correct vin numbers but with a 109 block, 8445 heads, BRF trans, and 8.5 axle would have the correct parts but not be numbers matching. Of course you could always restamp it, which today seems to be considered ok in a restoration(at least by the NCRS).

I bet in a few years Buick guys will be there !!! wait and see

Is there a vin stamp on the rear? I've looked all over it while it was out and didn't find any numbers that remotely matched. I know it should cause I've owned the car since new.

Thanks, Rob

Vin on Frame?

Where is the vin stamped on the frame? Is it the whole number or just a certain few?

Whada expect? I'm a parts guy. I could pick apart the average TR in no time flat.

You know I've been thinking about how to do a NCRS type deal with the TR or any non-Vette GM car. Like I said I'd hate to see us get crazy and have to resort to putting all of the factory flaws just to make it PC. I guess I need to hang out with John Chamberlain to see how the GS guys do it. Maybe when I see a 6 digit GN than I'll be motivated.

I never seen a vin# on my motor or trans!!!If so were is it?????????

the last 6 digits of the VIN is what's stamped on the block (vertical pad on driver's side of block at the rear). The same is true for the tranny. I think the pad is on the driver's side towards the rear of the pan rail (horrizontal pad).

Trans Question

My Car Came with a CZF Trans. I no because it was Burned up when I
Purchased the Car. It has a BRF in it now out of a 1986 T type that we Built
for it. The Vin Number is on the Tag that Matches the Car Vin the CZF Trans
that is.

The GS crowd already is.......
