I'm getting ready to purchase and install a alkycontrol kit, and I'm not sure if I need the 3 bar map sensor? Can someone explain what it is and whether it's necessary, good to have, or what? Thanks.

GN has a 2 bar ... you need a 3 bar that comes with the Buick kit ..OR just run 20#s of boost :p

The sensors have specific ranges of accuracy.
A bar being approx 14.7psi, is at sealevel, and is a factor when determining the capacity of the sensor you will need.
IE:
2 bar sensor has 1 bar used for reflecting vacuum. So, the sensor has 1 remaining bar of resolution, that will show boost up to approx 15psi.
A 3 bar will use 1 bar for vacuum, and allow 2 additional bars of resolution, or approx 30psi boost.

Okay, so if my target boost range is 20-25 psi I would need a three bar sensor, right?

Yup. There should be one included in with the alky kit. If you're looking at a good one that is. I think Razor's kits include one.

Well there is one factor.. this is assumming he doesnt have an aftermarket DFI like FAST, BS3, AEM etc that already run with a 3 bar.. In that case we can attach to it and negate having to run 2 "3 bars" in a vehicle.

Stock ECM/chip car.. you'll need it

Also.. the Malibu may be different than the GN for system layout.. call me when you get closer.. we need to measure three times and cut once. As placement of pump and hoses may be different. That is if the system is for the Malibu and not the GN.

Thanks

Julio

Thanks, guys. It's for the GN and I'm running stock ecm/chip. I'll get one on order here shortly.
