After 12 years of use, I recently went from 17 X 8" KMC stealth wheels, all the way around, to 20" Boyd Coddington billet aluminum wheels -- 20 X 10" w/ 5.5" backspace on the rear and 20 X 8" w/ 4.5" backspace on the fronts. I just installed 305-30-20 Nittos on the rear and run 255-35-20s on the front. I primarily use my GN as a show car and attend cruises just about every weekend -- and more! Since making this move, the car gets about 5 times the compliments I ever got with the 17s. The first photo in line is with the 17s, and the rest are with the 20s.

looking at the new american racing hot rods. they come in 17" with either a 0mm or 00mm offset. basically have stock suspension except for 1" lowering springs. which offset would work better. as for tires might go with 235/45/17 all around. maybe something bigger in rear not sure yet..

Aren't they 8" wide? If 0 offset, I believe that would be a 4.5" backspace. No problem with inside or wheel lip interference. Don't know what 00mm is, so can't comment. I ran 255 50 17s (27" tall)on the rear on mine, and 245 50 17 (26" tall) on the front. I liked the all chrome in those wheels.

What's the biggest wheel you can fit without any modification? Looking at 18x9.5 or 18x11 rears

Depends on the tire, and depends on the backspacing, and depends on the individual car, and depends on the passenger or drivers side.

Basically......learn to measure and take chances.

My guess is you're just beyond what you can fit. 8 or 8.5 is plenty big for fronts with no problems. Check out my post with photos above on this page and may give you some insight. I installed what I believe is the biggest 20" tire on the rear of my car, with a 10" rim, with only slight modification.

See more about my experience here:

Thanks .I went with 4.75 backspacing front/back and no spacers are needed for the back. Doesn't rub and rear fenders haven't been rolled , will say that it is pretty close to the passengers side frame though.

What's the offset?

Been running these rims for years now. I am gonna change the rear tires, putting DR's back on and going to a 275/40/17.

Thanks everyone. It was repainted in 2006. The Boyd Coddington's 17X8 i have had since around 03/04 or so. Running 245/45/17 up front and 255/50/17 on the rear but about to change to 275/40/17 DR's again. No traction on these regular Nitto 555's.
