Pulled the driver side header off to weld the common crack and found oil coming out of the top header bolt on the rear exhaust port,no valve cover leaks,no oil in exhaust port , no oil burning or smoke on start up, what gives? Cracked head, or does this bolt protrude into the head this way?

It's not supposed to, but that's not to say there might not be a small casting flaw.

If oil leaks, or even seeps, from the VC gasket or oil fill, it can easily end up on that bolt. Seen it many times.

Thanks for your responses, there is absolutely no oil leaking from the valve cover gasket as a matter of fact the outside of the bolt is completely dry its only the threaded part that is in the head it self that when taken out was covered in oil. I also am changing the rear main seal at this time and would hate to button it all up again if it has a problem. I was just wondering before i pop the head off if its a problem someone has come across before.

i have seen this on alum. heads when too long of a bolt has been installed.
