Oil pressure question

From what I understand our low oil pressure can be attributed to our front covers/ and the mating surface of the pump gears. I recently had 5lbs at idle and 27-38lbs at 55mph or 1600rpm. I got a new oil pump with a new thrust plate for a new mating surface, switched to the yellow spring and now I have 20lbs hot idle, 40 to 50 lbs at 55mph. My oil is over a year old and I know needs changed badly. I use 15-40 Rotella.

Also very important is how fast does it respond to rmps - it should jump up with some throttle

Interesting.... what does this indicate? Mine doesn't respond very fast. It's about 70-75 psi cold, and idles about 15-ish hot, and 40-45 cruising..... but seems rise rather slowly when taking off from a start. I have a mech. vdo gage in the car which obviously has a quite long run of the smallish copper tubing from the block (over, under, around, thru, etc.) to the gage. I always attributed what I consider the slow-ish response to the length of the tubing run. Thoughts??

Oh... I've always used Mobil 1 15w50 and my thermostat is a 180* (i know, i know... zddp etc...)

Same Old S#*&^

ok hooked up the Mechanical gauge, still the same thing if car is . when the car is @ 12,000 rpm's the oil pressure is @ around 12-15.. when I lower the idol down below 1,000 rpms the oil pressure drops below 5. Basically to 0...

The Motor is a fresh rebuild, So I dont really know what it could be.. the motor runs fine , no knockin, clicking or clanking even @ low idol with 0 pressure showing on gauge..

I talked to Saad @ Hye-Tech as he is the one who built the motor , He instructed me that I could send in the timing cover or somethin like that to make more clearance..

Then some1 else told me to just change the spring in my oil pump..

To sum it up , I dont know what the hell is wrong with this motor & i'm trying to figure out how to boost the pressure @ a low rpm.... It fine thru the rest of the ranges...

you need to pull the pump and install taller gears and or a plate in between that raises the pressure

same thing..

ok I installed the plate & no diff. it slowly drops... :( So should I try the gears or just assume the motor is no good.. I'm in need of some serious guidance or some input

what exactly would I need pull & measure & I'm not sure about the gear.. also is clearance the main thing that would cause a rebuilt motor to do such a thing ?

Your pressure levels seem fine. How much lag is there between hitting the gas up to curising speed and hitting the 40 - 45 you get at cruise?

It should move almost like a tach or the oil is bleeding off somewhere.
