Oil slinger under front cover?

Hey all, Just put the new engine in and forgot the slinger:mad:. Is that ok??? It runs like a champ, got 500 miles now,but iv'e heard do not forget this piece.wtf??? Just trying not to rip off the front cover. thanx

I did the same thing long ago with nothing happening as a result. I believe it aids in oiling your chain and gears and spacing your balancer so it may have an effect if you are looking for 100k miles.
 
I think the oil slinger also slings oil up to the cam sensor/cam gear/distributor gear or whatever you want to call it...

It also slings oil away from the front cover seal, so if it isn't there, then you may develop an oil leak at the front seal...

Hate to say it, but i would take it apart and put it back in there... :(
