Ok now I am interested in diesel info

Well we all know ODD GNX has one bad a$$ diesel powered “car”
Now for only the second time in my life I see another gas car converted to diesel.
It was a 65 impala on pimp my ride WITH 800 plus HP and 1400 plus torque
I can appreciate good work when I see it.
But when I think diesel a few things come to mind right away
1-they are noisy ass hell.
2-black smoke
3-bad smell
4-who the hell works on them, ohh man do I really have to sit in the waiting room with a bunch of truckers?

SO WHAT AM I MISSING

well, turbo diesels go forever if built right and taken care of...

Audi R8's are diesel

Check out bankspower.com he is messing with diesels twin turbos DURAMAX's .His Sidewinders are awesome a drag racing version and a road racing model. His problem is the weight of the diesel engines.

Whereas AUDI TDI has taken the diesel to a new level. Lighter motor block, usage of aluminum, titanium, berylium ,carbonfiber . Interesting website as well.

Gale Banks been messing with Turbos forever ,at one time he held a record at Bonneville pickup class 210mph with a Syclone pickup, think he consulted with GM/Buick in the 80's about Turbos, he did a twin Turbo Riviera Indy Pacecar and a few years later the GN showed up with a single turbo.

You might want to take a ride in a new Duramax before passing judgement...I have an '02 Excursion with the 7.3, and my boss has an '06 GMC 2500 with the Duramax. Damn thing is almost a quiet as a gas motor! Burns clean, and no bad smell.

cool that means that the diesel that i "know" is no more.
i will be doing lots of homework
800 HP and 1400plus of torque is very interesting.

The Cummins are pretty clacky, and the 6.0 Ford is too; don't know much about the 6.4 Ford. I know the Cummins can make stupid power- went to the track for the diesel drags and watched a crew cab dually make 11 secon passes:eek:

A real diesel is supposed to rattle... But I'm biased on that...

My 06 Cummins Dodge is very quiet compared to my friends 02. It is downright silent compared to my other buddy's 96 that is turned up pretty good. The 96 reminds me of my Buick when it hits second and it is like a punch in the back.

Plenty of smoke from the 96, next to none from the 06. But my 06 is stone stock except a Line-X bed liner and an exhaust brake. No need to mess with it IMHO, and it is a 6-speed, so it does not hot rod as well. It is my tow rig after all.

Diesel technology

If you want to hear and see what High Tech Racing Diesels can do check out 24hr of LeMans and the rest of the LMP1 Series the Audi V12 diesel R10 TDI race car(Fastest and Winningest Diesel Powered car in the World) run in they are light weight torque monsters and had been UNDEFEATED. Whipped up on the gasoline powered cars. No better light weight diesel technology in the world right now years ahead.Gale Banks is trying to get a NHRA class for the Turbo diesels as they have cleaner fuel that burns better not the stereotypical black smoke clunker.Wish I had a lil Turbo diesel Rabbit to play with, pull up to McDonalds get a Big Mac and fill up on french fry grease.

I have a 03 tdi jetta that i love, but if they do release a rabbit with a tdi i will be making a trade in.

now the big Question.
the starting line is a complete car minus engine and trans.

how much money to go diesel at about 800HP and 1400 plus torque?

how much to gas at about 800HP and 1400plu torque?

Hmmm...

A real diesel is supposed to rattle... But I'm biased on that...

SO AM I...;)

What a beautifull sound. You go for and ours ride, first half hour you listen to chanel 6 on the SIRIUS satellite station (OLD fart here:D ) the second half our, you bring your windows down and listen to the "clacker's beautifull piston striking sound" AHHHH what beautiful sound that is. If you've messed around with the injectors, you do whatever you can to floor it every once in a white and try to snork in some of that wonderfull black diesel smoke:cool: ( I know, you already think I am crazy, don't worry, you are not alone) ANNNNNND... if you want a PRICELESS experience, and you "Bomb it" (known expression in the diesel world when you've "altered your ride's performance capabilities), wait till you are sitting in a stop light and a couple of young kids in their mustangs pull next to your 7800lb ride ( on your exhaust side [of course])you eyeball each other with that "IT"S ON LOOK", the light turns green, and when you lock your converter their car disappears in that black cloud they dare not enter...
a clouple of blocks down, the light turns red again, they pull up to you again,
that PRICELESS unbeleiving look all over their face asks you to roll down your window, you do, they ask, WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE TO THAT THING ?(all perplexed), you answer NOTHING...IT"S STOCK (doesn't everybody ?), That, my friend, is worth every single one of those 60 monthly payments a poor guy like myself has had to dish out in exchange for an owners title on your ride.:)

My biased opinions ?
Fords, nice, quiet and cumfy. They sound nice with an after market Turbo, you'd swear there is a 747 getting ready to land by you, Try going to the Nationals and try to get some sleep and have Billy Anderson drive by thr parking area with his whistler, you'd hit the deck immediatelty, you'd swear that plane is going to land in your bed. There is one in Miami that runs 10's (Gaby Motorworks). After about a year racing it, he got smart, he put a real motor in it, the one that took him to the 10's, Cummins, of course, fastest Ford I've ever seen, dually Ford, that is.

My second choice, would be the GMC-Duramax. Nice, quiet, cumfy, though not as much as the Ford, a lot on new technology is starting to triclke down
but expensive as hell to make them go fast.

If you want a TRUCK, ( some call them a tractor ), not anymore with these newer models...NOTHING out there beats the the Dodge/Cummins.

Some of us preffer white over black, green over yellow and blue over RED...wait a minute, DID I SAY RED ? I HATE RED and all it stands for in my complex craneal computer, NEVER RED here. There is nothing like towing a 15,000 40' trailer up Mt.Egel and enjoying the torkiness of your ride, checking out that egt gauge that keeps laughing at the challenge that steep mountain can bring to your ride. You sit back and laugh at those poor souls that are trying to immitate your doing with a gasoline engine...you'll like diesel, if only the damn price of diesel would drop ro where it should be .25 a gal:eek: everything would be OK !

What ever your decision is, GOOD LUCK with it...
BE well !

Check out Turbo Diesel Register
"TurboDieselRegistry" a plethera of information on "Dawdges-Cummins"

It's probably a matter of opinion. but there's nothing I dislike more that being stopped at a stoplight and not being able to speak with the person riding with me because of a noisy diesel truck next to me! I much prefer the newer, smoother and quieter diesels which are also more powerfull...I fact, I just sold my older, noisy F350 and have a brand new '08 F350 already on order...It should be much quieter...at least I expect it to be! Can't wait to get it!
Like "Boost" said in the previous post, my second choice would have been a GMC-Duramax....but nothing beats the quality built into Ford trucks.
As for Dodges, I would never but such a pile of junk...They hold their value much much less, are ugly (at least to me...:D ) are less powerfull and I never owned one and never will...
THAT'S IT.

Claude

True...
....but nothing beats the quality built into Ford trucks.

Except for their 6.0L right??

As for Dodges...are less powerfull...

Off the showroom floor maybe. After that it's a different story. If you don't believe me let me know when your twin turbo arrives... I only have (1) turbo on my truck... ;)

Roy,

Did you read about my little run-in here:

"NCTURBOS", the reason I bought an '08 is exactly that...the fact that there is supposed to be a lot of problems associated with the 6.0 engine and several people including a few mechanics working at Ford dealers who told me to stay away from them. So I'm getting an '08 with the new 6.4 engine and just hope it'll be good and reliable!
As for my comment on Dodge trucks, I apologize to you and all others here who has one... I admit I've should have thought before saying this that I might offend some...but believe me, this was not my intention to insult anyone...my mistake :frown:, again sorry!
Last, I have no intention of racing anyone with my new truck. I bought it to be more a workhorse to get me wherever I want to go than beating another truck at a stoplight, so as long it has ample power to pull my 22 ft. enclosed trailer, that's all I'm asking for...
Thanks,

Claude ;)

My 98.5 Cummins is loud and clanky but it get 6 - 8 mpg better than my Yukon around town and Diesel is finally cheaper than 87 Octane again, so the Yukon is parked for now.
