A while back the pin in the cam sensor gear drive snapped and clogged the oil pump. Ever since the lifters are VERY loud, replaced them still noisey. I've just been told there are check valves in the oil pump that allow oil to get to the lifters is this true? The pump looked fine so it wasn't replaced :(

I DO NOT want to pull the motor, i just want ot change the pump and cam

With that said, I see johnsperformance has the high volume oil pump and cover, should i spring for that? Should I replace the timing chain? Should I replace the lifters as well? They have like 30 miles on them..

Now onto the cam, I was thinking either the 208/208 or the 204/214 cam, my motor is bone stock internally, T+ and extender chip for bluetops Lt1 MAF and exhaust is done...

Any advice would be great, I'm more concerned with the oil pump theory..

I'd go with the 204/214, its great cam, and go ahaed and upgrade the timing chain while its all apart. I heard that the 204/214s don't like the stock type chains, so u might want to go double roller. I'd replace the lifters as well just to be safe. The high volume oil pump is a goof idea but some may say other wise, so i'll let some other people respond. Good luck

Is the whole clogged check valve theory a good that would explain my lifters not getting oil?

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? If so, what does it say?

The only "check valve" type things in the oil pump are the oil filter bypass and the relief valve. Oil filter bypass stuck open would not hurt your oil pressure, stuck closed it would only hurt it if your oil filter was plugged up (or too small, like the stock filter size). Relief valve, if it was stuck closed you'd probably have sky high oil pressure, nothing that would make lifters noisy. Stuck open, you'd suffer from low oil pressure, that is possible. Easy to check out luckily, this is the spring and piston assembly behind the big hex head on the oil pump cover. Take that off and see if the piston inside can move around freely.

Tony, I would pull the motor and inspect the internals and do it right. It will be cheaper in the long run. If you need a good machine shop let me know.

Ed, with info that John just gave me I WILL be pulling the motor, it doesn't sound like an oil pump problem...

AS far as the pressure at was around 40#'s at idle..
