I'm replacing my rear main seal. After removing the bearing cap I got to wondering if it is OK to re-use the stock bolts? Are they torque to yield? If so, I don't believe I should. I've read a bunch of posts regarding replacing the rear main, but didn't see anything on this subject. If I need new, where is the best place to get them? Thanks.

no problem reusing them. just torque to spec and call it a day.

Yes but why?

After all they are 20 years old. They have been holding that pressure all that time. For the price of a set of ARP bolts there is no reason not to replace. If you have it to this point replace them. Check summit for them.

IMO

you could replace them all but i dont see a point at this point in time. now if you where doing all the bearing or check all the bearings and had all the caps off sure do them but since you only pulled one i dont see the point

Only the headbolts are torque to yield and cannot be reused. Just reuse the original bolts. If you put different bolts like arp, the higher strength fastener will more than likely change the bearing clearance. And that could spell trouble. Spun bearing. Just reuse them and torque to the factory specs.

Wow

See that is what will happen when you do not read the whole thread. I just skimmed over it. I did not realize you only where removing one cap to change the seal. I stand corrected and apologize for giving you bad advice! Just reuse!
