-I know this is supposed to be in the restoration section but the turbolounge gets much more traffic-

Well I just finished waxing my moms '02 Camaro SS. It looks great!! Well I took a look at the origional paint job on my GN and it almost brought a tear to my eye. :( It looks so dull and scratchy. I dont have the money for a new paint job so i figured I'd give the paint a GOOD referbishing. What should I do to get all of the little scratches cause by using the wrong rags. How do I get rid of the oxidation? Whats teh best way to get rid of/ cover up the bigger scratches? Should I try wetsanding it (zero experience)? I have NO IDEA how to use the polishing compounds or what types to use, nor do I know what orders to use them in. I dont think just a good waxing is going to give it the mirror finish that I want. Please advise.

Thanks

BOOSTD, Your Avatar rules!

A friend of mive who's an ex car detailer showed me the following process and it works miracles.

Start by getting some GM Paint Surface Cleaner from any GM dealership. It's like $5 or so. Then, get some good polish. I use the Maguires show car polish, but I know Zaino is a really good product as well. Then, get yourself some Carnuba wax. Any good brand is fine, but just make sure that the package says Carnuba wax on it.

Start by washing your car with Dish soap, like Dawn. This will remove any old wax.

Next, use the GM Paint Surface Cleaner as directed.
Then, use the Polish as directed.
Follow up with a couple good coats of wax and you should be very happy with the results.

Hey, thanks. I thought is was an apporpriate pic. did you click the hyperlik entitled "its an awesom spectacle?" I crack up everytime I listen to it.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone else, feel free to give your info on my paint problem.

pay someone to wetsand and buff the car......there's a guy around her that can make anyone's paint job, look like a million...

I re-buffed my GN and my black F150 with a 3M polish (dark grey in color) using a black foam pad @ 1500 RPM and it looks perfect. Waxing it would not have gotten rid of the scratches that had developed over the years.. It took a long week to do it..

Miami is a little far for me to drive:) About how much does it cost to have it wetsanded and buffed?

who makes the "black foam pad?" What power tool did you use to buff the car with?

Thanks

Just go to your local autobody shop and they can set you up with the pad and compound. A buddy has a buffer since he use to do bodywork..
