My Bone Stock 98 Trans-Am LS1 6-Speed went 13.1@107 with 12K miles on it.

My TTA wasn't near that fast stock, I have heard that some TTAs have run in the lower 13s stock but no where near 107mph traps.

So Talking Stock Stock Stock my LS1 was faster.

Throw $1000 bucks at both cars are the TTA will be in the 11s with the LS1 stuggling to try not to break parts getting into the 12s.

I just sold my LS1 today btw.

Struggling to get into the 12's without breaking parts?
I guess if that happened to you I've have sold it too!

100 shot,nitto's,air lid= freemods=12.0's about $1000
Been there done that.:D

I could barely get that car to the track before it broke. What a POS. No more newer GM cars or trucks for me.

2 T56s, 1 Rear, Warped Rotors, Headlight motors, check engine lights, ABS lights, oil pressure sender blewout, control arm bolt FELL out, and on and on and on...

I can't wait to buy another Ford, they truly make awesome vehicles.

03 Cobra's are $29,999.

But back on Topic... Even with Nitrous the TTA is still quicker in the 1/4 for $1000 bucks. Nitrous is only good for a couple blasts, I can get 200 miles of fun out of a tank of racegas.

You haven't responded to the question...if stock gns run mid 14s all day....then the 87 Vette and 87 LX 5.0 5 spd would be quicker. Who created the "propoganda" that GNs were quicker than the Vettes, Mustangs, IROCs (80s in general?).... seems to me it would be anybody's race.

Moderator: can you please lock this thread.

what is it you want me to respond to?....GN's WERE the fastest cars in the 80's.....how fast do you think Corvettes were? They were lucky to get out of the 15's.....5.0 Mustangs were closer, but they ran high 14's on a good day in stock form

there weren't any "fast" cars available until the first LT-1's that were even close to GN's (but in those days, fast was anything in the 14's...)

LT-1's came out in what '92? they were closer in stock form...LS-1's in '97(?).......they are a very worthy challenger to a stock GN....and now that they have some experience, downright fast with some mods

I think given a few more years the TTAs will be able to transport us back in time along with running an 11 second quarter mile pass. Don't get me wrong, I love these cars but an LS1 can easily be a low 13 second car bone stock. 700 bucks for a power adder...(nitrous) and some slicks and it too is a low 12 or high eleven second car. It has been done hundreds of times.

You can laugh all you want....an LS1 on the juice is a bad mofo...for not very many dollars.

I personally think they are very close, and have heard stories of LS1's and TTA's getting 12.9's bone stock but never seen it with my own eyes.

What I can add to this topic is what two of my bone stock TTA's run(I never ran my third).

#850 is 100% stock and turned a 13.6@100 on a 90+ day but could really use a good tune up/spring cleaning

#884 is stock with the exception of 2.77 gears instead of 3.27 and I gave it a spring cleaning before going to the track and it turned a 13.3@106 on a 75 degree day

Just thought I'd share

Steve

In the end...it really doesn't matter what #s people can come up with in perfectly controlled track conditions (mag times?)... ,,, ...and real world is what matters anyways. When any topic concerning LS-1s comes up...I notice a trend...everybody points to suspect (skewed?) examples of the "fabled" high 12s. Thus...every LS-1 runs high 12s...every time. There will always be those that believe that EVERY 03 Cobra on the street is being driven by a legion of capable drivers into the high 11s...low 12s--every time.

azgn There you go again... I owned an 87 L98 Vette (2nd owner) and with a K/N...ran 14.2 all day long  I know,,,I know.... The K/N filter is responsible for the full second difference.

P/S...I love that car...the TPIs are very reliable

Yea, when my buddy kills a trailer queen in his 69 camaro with a 225 hit he get's laughed at too because he didn't really win did he?, hell he even gives the money back!

12.93 and you're laughing at ME:rolleyes:

I guess you haven't spent that couple hundred dollars yet.

I haven't seen a stone stock ls1 or TTA run 12's.

I like TTA's a lot and wish I could get one without giving up other toys.

A fast car is a fast car, doesn't matter how it's done.

From everything I have heard I would say it is a close match up. But when you think how much older the TTA is compared to the LS1 cars it makes the TTA even more impressive IMO. Maybe the LS1 is faster, maybe it isn't. But I can tell you which one I would buy if I was in the market for another car. TTA all the way. New GM cars suck.

I would be willing to bet that you have never even driven an LS1 powered car?

How can you say they suck without even a minute of seat time? I don't own one so I am not defending what I own...but if you don't think an LS1 can be one bad mofo then you are just living with your head in the sand. The turbo 6s were and are incredibly impressive but the world has caught up with 1986 and their are some fast cars out there now.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here....but you've never been in a TTA. I've been in both cars being discussed here.

Congratulations. You win a cookie.
All joking aside, I'm as diehard a turbo 6 guy as any here. It is an incredible motor and I'm not knocking it. But the question was concerning a stock TTA vs. LS1. Not what a TTA is capable of after a few mods. With stock tires both cars have enough low end torque to smoke the tires so a TTA won't be jumping to a huge lead off the line especially against an A4 car. Stock they might be close but a "dead heat"... Not likely.

Wow someone really has a serious problem with bottle fed cars...hate to tell you, but the rules of the street are "Run what ya brung"...and as a good friend of mine says (mustang owner, but good guy and a great racer/driver) to make a mustang/NA car fast on the street (pulls out bottle for all to see) just add the sauce"....
And I guarantee he will cokk up an ass whoopen just for you, and me, and anyone not running mid to low 11's.

This is a bit off topic and opinion...but I think the 4rth gen is really unattractive. My L98 IROC is a better looking car by far...maybe that has something to do with GM selling more 3rd gens and failing with the "beautiful" Camaro soap dish with honda lights.

I attend a car show with 14 or more LS-1s lined up and these guys for their credit get a hard on for their toys that all look exactly like the one next to it. Then a Grand National drives up and I am jumping ship. :p

Then a Grand National, GTO, or 57 Bel Air drives up and I am jumping ship. :p Of course over half the LS-1 guys can care less what type of wheels rolls into the show... We all know how great their cars are don't we ;)
