I gave my old red to my son for his dd Typhoon, it still won't crank after not being driven for 2 days. Red works fine as long as my son drives every day & he had an injector issue requiring a lot of cranking with no red issues.

Red still won't work after car sits 2 days, my Sears platnium is still good.

I like the Sears Diehards.

The only thing that would live in my Expedition (which sits parked long periods of time) is the Diehard Platinum.

They are pricey... but 4yr full replacement and 100 month pro-rated replacement is tough to beat.

Is the DH Platinum a gel type?? I heard DH had a new line didn't know if they were still the acid type. The only bene for the Optima to me was the gel so it prevented the corrosion that I have with wet cells.
But every wet DH I've had lasted 6-8+ years so far (longer than any red top I've had), I'd try a gel type DH for sure.

I'm not 100% positive, since it's been a few months since I bought it... but I could swear the salesman told me it WAS a gel battery... which might help explain the $185 price tag. ;)

The DieHard Platinum is an AGM battery. Can sit on a shelf for 2 years without needing to be recharged (assuming no voltage draw if installed in a car, of course). The terminals are brass that are tin-plated to eliminate corrosion. The lead plates inside are virgin lead (not reclaimed).

I have Diehard Golds in every one of my cars; 6 1/2 years old in my Dakota, 5 years old in the wifes Civic, and 1 year old in the Grand National :) . Zero problems.

John

P.S. If this sounds like a commercial I didn't intend it to be ;) I am the manager of a Sears Auto store.
