anyone tell me the easiest way to get to the casting number on the block of a 3rd gen camaro...do you need to be underneath the vehicle to see it or is it visible from above? my friend is looking at this 92 camaro z28 tonight, and the seller claims its a 350-5speed ..which "supposedly" none of these ever existed, although very few are out there somewhere. but i wanted to check the vin and the cat number on the block and try to figure if its original or not..i know jackson has a 91-92 camaro, maybe you know. thanks

Joe,
Check out this website.

http://www.thirdgen.org/

It has a VIN decoder and RPO decoder.

There should be a L98 and an M-- on the build sticker under the console lid or in the spare tire area.

I've never seen a Z-28 with manual.

Joe

If its a 92 then its a 350 and also I never heard of a 5-speed tranny

not all 92's were 350's

my neighbor had a 305/5 speed '92 Z28...

recently donated it...

That's odd I never knew the 5speed 305 was available on the 25th aniversary edition.

Rob you sold the Z yet?

this car was stock... and had manual windows

yes, I did sell the Z

Lets elaborate...

305 cars could be had with manual or auto...

350 cars only had auto

350 cars also had a different speedo than 305 cars (higher speed)

late model 3rd gen 350's also couldnt be had with t-tops, or ive heard..and werent supposed to come with manual, but they are out there...few and far between, so little that i doub i wil ever find one in my lifetime. and thats besides the police package ones in 91 and 92 that came with the aluminum head vette block with a 6 speed....only 500 and some made,542..or some odd number like that.

No 350 Convertible's, however

see i always thought that too, i just never knew anyone who had a 350/t-top...but i know they "claimed" the 350 was too much for a t-top car, but now i know.

Actually, it is too much for the T-Top... and so is the 305...

GM has made T-TOPS for years, and cant get it right...

Hey Joe, My sources tell me that this car was indeed sold. Out of curiosity, where you able to determine what engine was under the hood? Not one to raise the BS flag but I was told the same thing about the engine. stew
