Our Machine Shop needs some work....

Our Machine Shop, MRF Machine, has open time on their CNC machines and is looking for work. They do out of state work all the time, so location is not really an issue (in most cases). Sorry, they don't do anything "engine" wise, but more of a general machine shop and hydraulic cylinders for just about anything.

If anyone knows a business that needs parts machined or has jobs to quote, they would REALLY appreciate the chance to quote it. They offer up to 5% referral fee once they get paid for a new job, so someone could make some easy money here too. That is similar to a rep's fee that finds work for shops. Any business purchasing hydraulic cylinders in 10 piece qty & above, that would apply as well. They do from 3/4" dia to 6" dia all the time, and can do other sizes depending on the specifics. They make a lot for the construction equipment business for big names like Case, John Deere, Komatsu, etc.

You can use the phone/fax number in my signature, that will be fine. We appreciate the chance to quote on any machine work, small jobs, big jobs, odd jobs, even jobs, etc...

We can get just about any outside service done too, like plating, powder coating, anodizing, grinding, gun drilling, key ways, hardening, hard chroming, blanchard grinding, laser cutting, plasma cutting, just about anything you can think of. If it's part of the whole job with some machining, we can usually be competitive on the whole package. If you are looking for just the outside service to get done, then you will probably do better just going direct to the person doing that service.

We also deal with weldments, castings, forgings, or just bar stock, with all steels, stainless, hardened, and aluminum, brass, plastics, etc... If it can be machined, we can do it. In the last 15 years, we have had less than a half percent scrap/return rate which we are proud of. We also go the extra mile to deburr parts & package as needed to ensure no damage in shipment.

Thanks for the prints, but unfortunately they are basically laser/plasma cut only. Without doing something to the parts ourselves, we can't really be competitive. Also, the 32" dia & 1" thick makes a big heavy part that adds costs in shipping. The combo makes it almost impossible to be competitive with local shops around you.

We were really looking for either Hydraulic/Air Cylinders (parts or whole), and/or general machining work with possibly other "outside" services included as well. Then we can be competitive priced, even with shipping added in.

Petter Supply ships our cylinders all over to get them rebuilt.They ship the parts out get them rebuilt and bring them back to the plant.They are out of Paducah Ky.but they have a office here in Mt Vernon.(618)242-8987.Might give them a call our plant alone probably gives them over a million dollers a year in repair work on cylinders and pumps.

Thanks for the info Brad. We don't do much "rebuilding", it's mostly new parts & complete assy's. Maybe that is a direction we need to explore. Seems there is getting to be more & more of a need for rebuilding, sometimes in a hurry.

Brad, if I understand you correctly, YOUR company sends cylinders and pumps TO Petter Supply to get rebuilt, and Petter sends them out to get repaired? If this is true, what do you gain from Petter Supply being the "middle-man"?

Can we have the opportunity to quote the rebuild work from you, or do we have to go thru Petter Supply to quote it? If so, do we tell them you referred us?

Paul, i'd still like you to quote the parts i sent you if you have the ability/willingness to produce them. The additional cost involved in shipping will not be a concern with this customer. if you know someone with a laser that can cut 1" and hold + or - 0.015" than by all means send the two 1" parts to them. locally 3/4" thick is about all we can ask. thanks, aaron

I gave the prints to my brother and told him to see what he could do and/or get done here. I looked at them real quick, thought there was more tolerance allowed than +/- .015. Were you looking to get the whole part machined out of plate because it is too thick for laser/flame/plasma cutting effectively?

Yes Petter is just a middle man for our repairs.They made a deal with Conti to put some of our parts on consignment.We have millions of dollers in parts in our store room and the bean counters say it costs to much in taxes to keep it all.So Petter has a man in our plant that helps with the invetory and at least some of the parts are only billed to us when we check them out.

As far as who to talk to I will ask Chad the Petter boy if I see him tomorrow.

you got it, we dont have anyone locally that could burn these and hold the specs. i thought you may be interested in having them burned oversized and then machining per print. let me know if you can get them done. thanks, aaron

Paul,

I'd like to make a suggestion for your subconcious mind to consider.

TTA's have an adaptor on the engine block where the oil filter attaches. The adaptor taps oil for cooling (say, like an engine oil cooler on a TR).

I think there would be a lucrative after market for that adaptor in the Buick community and the general GM community as well. May already have been done, but I still think there is a market for them.

Just a thought.

I talked to Chris today and he said to get the info to him as far as what you can do and if you wanted the work and can do what they need he will send you some sample work to look at so you can make a bid.He was very interested to know if you could make cylinder rods.I guess there must be a real need for this.When we used to rebuild our own cylinders if we needed a new rod we got them from who ever made the cylinder.I'm not sure why he wanted to know if you could make them I would think it would be cheaper to buy one or maybe have the old one rechromed.

Thanks Brad. I passed on your post info too. Yes we make cyl rods, all shapes & sizes, hardened & regular, chrome & std. If it is anything related to a cyl, we should be able to handle it.

lburou, that sounds like a good idea to look into down the road. Our shop can't take time to design their own stuff & market it & all that, they are looking more for just machine work. I am not in a position to do all that right now either, too many projects ahead of it.

If anyone works at a place that they know buys cylinders or has machine work done, please let us know. We can usually provide better work at lower prices, even with shipping added in. It's always a good thing to save your boss/company thousands of dollars a year
