Output shaft play

I have my 2004r out and I noticed that there is significant up and down play in the output shaft. Is this normal? If not, will I likely be facing addittional expense over a performance rebuild and most of the hard parts? Should I be checking the driveshaft balance or other external issues?

Tranny only has 32K on it and I wasn't having any problems, just planing on strengthening it over the winter.
