I recently purchased a ttype. When I travel on the high way at 65 my tach reads 5000 rpm. Any time a gas it the tach reads well into the redline. I know I am in overdrive because if I downdhift I can here it. I also notice that the car is slow to downshift on its own from OD, it revs like when a cluth slips on a manual car with a bad clutch before downshifting. Also I'm only getting about 10 mpg. I'm guessing that the cat is pluged? and the ingition is messed up giving a higher than actual rpm to the dash and computer?
When I am cruising at 65 it doesn't sound like 5000rpm.

Where should I start with this car to fix the above?

What kind of Tach are you using?

If it is the stock Tach then don't worry about what it says...they read incorrectly.....If you want a good tach look into buying an AutoMeter!
