Aside from our vendors, which cars have 160* stats that we could use?
I vaguely remember Motorcraft?

Thanks.

pretty much any GM 160F stat will work. mrgasket and hypertech both make gm 160F stats. there arent any car specific ones just general GM, Ford, Chrysler, etc. then pick the temp; 160, 180, 190, etc.

I just went to plain old O'Reilly's auto parts and asked for a 160 for my 85 GN. It's not too much of a "specialty" item. HTH

I've got a brand new Hypertech 1003 160 stat in the box. I was going to put it on e-bay but if you want it I would like $10 for it. If you're interested e-mail me at gs401_2000@yahoo.com.

The '86-7 160 deg thermostat is VERY much a speciality item.

The 1985 and earlier T-R's used a normal t'stat, but it is not the same as the special one in '86-7's.

Maybe I am still a newbie... (well, no maybe about it...) What exactly is he difference?

So which other GM's have this particular stat? Is it a custom order from a
stat maker?

OK, will explain so you will understand all about the the 160 degree thermostat for 1986-87 Buick turbo motors.

First, due to the diameter on the housing hole in the intake manifold, a smaller diameter thermostat is required. No other GM or other make, model or year uses this size. [The 1989 TTA uses a Buick turbo engine, hence same thermostat]

Second, when new, the turbo motors came with a factory 180 deg. t'stat. GM, or no other aftermarket supplier offers a 160 deg. one to fit.

So Buick vendors went to someone, somewhere and had them modify 160 deg. t'stats to fit the '86-7 engines.

So quit trying to cheap out and go to a Buick vendor and purchase a 160 deg. thermostat, or go buy one for an older Chevy and cut it down yourself.

Great input Nick! I will get one from one of our vendors.

Thanks.

I may not be a vender but I've still got a new in box Hypertech 1003 (which I believe I got from a vender, can't remember thought) for sale. I'm just not going to use it, $10 shipped. E-mail me if your interested at gs41_2000@yahoo.com. Thanks.
