It was going to happen sometime- my GN got backed into at work and the header panel got cracked. The trouble I'm having is: how to repaint it AND have the factory orange peel look to it. The body shops I've talked to all do nice work. Nice and smooth and glossy. I did find a new quart of black lacquer since I didn't want bc/cc paint. Any secrets I can tell my painter as to getting an orange peel finish?

Paint doesn't just lay out dead flat when you paint it. After spraying, say, three coats, there will be orange peel. Smooth and glassy comes after wet sanding and buffing. If you are going to use that lacquer, just have him reduce it with a slow thinner. Should dry glossy. If not, don't sand, just buff.

Thanks. I'll let him know. Although, as a painter, he probably knows it already.
