"Parts for sale'"

So seeing the parts for sale threads are more like an ebay ad latley, should we get a more updated "trader" system up and running?...what happend to first come first serve? If the guy first up offers twenty bucks less than asking price simply move on,...period. Don't post it up saying "well he offers this" what do you offer? Its as simple as saying from the get go, no I'll take this for it shipped and that's it. Also people who give it ten minutes between updating posts with the said b/s is just something else...Mike

He can sell to whoever he wants, even if you are the first responder.

It's not just new members. Its just the way people operate these days. Nothing is a hand shake so nobody gives a darn about a screen name when there is no face. We used to operate as if it were a hand shake deal when the net was new but that ediquate has worn thin as time goes by. Text messages over phone calls, etc. Just the way things are these days

I haven't really had any bad deals go down here other than a couple of parts I bought that left me a little disappointed.
But this new "make an offer" way of thinking just doesn't fly with me. That's why they have auction websites. Guys like this would cringe if they saw the "for sale" rules over at V8Buick.com.

I agree that make an offer is not acceptable. Some of this make an "offer" is a result of people trolling and hijacking threads. Beating sellers down, etc. Like you guys stated above, no face, no hand, no etiquette..... Sux!

There are buyers AND sellers that need to re-think their methods. Buyers shouldn't call dibs and not have the money for the item(s). I have left a few sellers without a sale because I posted that I wanted their item and they told me they were giving someone else who responded before me several days or so to get their funds together. I purchased elsewhere sometimes brand new from a vendor. Sure enough the seller contacts me to say I can get their item. I tell them they missed their opportunity to sell it to me as I've gotten it elsewhere. I have seen folks sit on items for a long time due to not selling to someone who has the money ready because of someone else who calls 'first in line' and asks for time to get their funds together and then doesn't come through. When I sell something money talks. I will not pull the sale from someone for a higher offer but my item is going to the first person that has my asking price ready. If that first buyer tells me its going to take 2 days to transfer funds for some reason or another they have TWO DAYS before the next person can get it. If they say more than two days well I'm not making any promises that I'll hold it that long. If its a buyer with a reputation for not coming through they need to have the money pronto because I won't be passing up a sale for a dead beat buyer.
I had a set of heads that I put up for sale several years back. I was harassed with low ball offers from a member. After numerous refusals of said offers I got fed up and told the guy that I refused to sell to him even if he paid twice my asking price. He became furious. There are ways to conduct yourself respectfully as a buyer and as a seller.
I made an offer that was below asking price to a member selling a CAS V1 IC. I did so in a respectful manner via PM. After he tried but couldn't get his asking price he accepted my offer. Imo this should be the only way an item 'goes to bid'. If it doesn't sell for the asking price then the highest offer should get it, not necessarily the first offer.

Whenever I reply to a parts wanted inquiry I describe what I have based on their request then ask what they are comfortable with $$$ wise. As far as parts for sale I feel all should have a dollar amount they are looking for while awaiting responses! Then go to PM's to negotiate!!! Watching everyone banter back & forth is useless in the alerts section.................

This is silly, and having an elitist attitude toward newer members isn't going to solve the problem. The item being sold should be able to go to the first person who can offer the money. In the short time that I've been here, multiple posts I have made have had members proclaim "I'm first" and then days will pass without a payment coming in when the guy behind him was ready to pay the moment he read the post.

Stating "or best offer" is merely stating I'm willing to compromise in the instance that you don't believe the product I'm offering is worth the asking price.

If you feel strongly enough about a topic to make multiple comments on multiple postsand then create a thread in the For Sale setion, why not message admin, and ask that the rules be changed instead of requesting members gather their pitchforks?

This forum has a feedback section for this very reason.

When you list a car for sale here it has to have a price. I would support that same policy in the 'Parts for Sale' forum as well. Auction your parts on eBay, its an auction site. This forum's title is 'Parts for sale' not 'Parts for Auction'.
