penicillin vs wine

having an argument with wife.

periodontist prescribed me penicillin for gum work done.

the bottle does not say any interaction with alcohol.

I say I can drink a glass of wine while on this medication.

the wife says i can't

who is right?

Penicillin might make you have the runs. I wouldn't mix alcohol with that until your done with them.

Probably not something I would do anyway - but there is no posted known problem with alcohol and penicillin.

They do say it should be taken on an empty stomach for best effectiveness.

So, if you take it a few hours before eating and then drink your wine, probably not a problem. Of course, I am not a doctor, I just play one on the net....
