I am thinking about installing an alchy injection kit using the info from the DIY sites. My question is about the running the pump. I see two different philosophies in the plumbing for the pump, running it all the time and using a press reg on the return side versus running the pump only when needed?
What are the pros/cons of each and which do you guys prefer to use?
Thanks for the info.

For your first kit you should run it with a pressure switch IMO. Get used to adjusting it and learning how to tune it.

Then you can move up to more nozzles, pressure return lines, etc.

Steve Y. and Steve Hill run systems like you are describing, with return lines and the like

Instantaneous activivation, no delay would be one advantage. More pressure and better patterns may be others, I am not sure

Agree, and consistency from run to run is another. Possibly you could delay the turn-on point a pound or two.

Spend your money going two-stage. I foung good improvement there.

I think it depends how you plan to use it. If the inj. is only needed for 1/4 mi blasts, you could keep it simple having the pump come on with a pressure switch feeding one or two nozzles at the same time. You can always expand/improve later. I built my system "full boat" from the beginning since I wanted instant responce and the ability to run almost continuosly on boost (I pull a travel trailer). I have the system under pressure always (60-80lbs) using solenoid valves and Hobbs switches on each stage. I also have an accumulator tank hidden in the fender so the pump comes on only occasionally when I've used enough fluid to reduce the pressure from 80psi down to 60psi. It took me three months of research and gathering parts but it works perfectly.

Are there any DIYdescriptions on the two stage systems? I know I have to start off with the basics but just want to read more about it for later on.

Hey R-R, do you have any write-up or info on the type of system you built? Sounds very interesting. I am always interested in new projects to work on, especially for the buick.

R-R, If I could ask, who's pump are you using, is it a carrols supplied 100 psi?

paul

I'm using a Shurflo 800-541-236. It comes factory set 40-60psi but is easily adjustable to higher pressure. It's similar to what is used in RVs but is a more HD version. It's actually a replacement pump for an agriculture pesticide spray system.
