photoshop pros....need help

Ok, my Dad's company has purchased an ARCA car which they are going to use as a promotional tool for the company. We are trying to come up with several different company logo paint schemes to vote on. Does anyone have any tips and what is the best software for this? I have digital pictures of the car, but have never even tried to alter a photo before.
