Hi guys I am curious as to what the physical dimension differences are between the GT6131 or similar and a stock 86/87 turbo? In particular i am looking for the difference from the center of the compressor wheel to the outside of the scroll as seen by then line on the attached pic.

I have a hot air motor, and i will be using an 86/87 intake on it, but i will be keeping the turbo in the stock hot air location. I have to modify the plenum slightly to clear a 86/87 turbo and i know that works, but i am curious how much more or less i will need to do it for a GT6131 turbo.

Thanks, for any input

The TO4E compressor cover used on the 6131E turbo is very close to 8" total diameter. Half that would be 4" from centerline to outer edge. I just measured mine the best I could with it installed on the car and at the highest point to the lowest point on my E cover it's right at 8" OD. If any one out there has a TO4E compressor cover equipped turbo, they should be able to perfectly measure it and report back here. My piddly excuse for a measurement might be off by 1/4" or so. Now, they do offer a TO4S cover for that turbo, which would be a 6131S, and that cover is larger than the TO4E cover.
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the quick reply Patrick. Is that approx 8" measurement uniform all the way around the turbo? I am guessing it probably is, but I ask because the measurement as I have it marked on above photo is approximately where the turbo mounted in the hot air location would interfere with the 86/87 plenum, so that is the measurement of concern if it is different.

Hopefully someone could chime in with what a 86/87 measures...

Thanks,
Nathyn

i will be off home in about 2 hours i cant post up my GT6131 E messurement.

Awesome, thanks everyone.... Does anyone have a measurement of a stock 86/87 turbo?

Thanks guys,
Nathyn

i cant find my messuring tape. humm i will have to get back to you

Another question... Is the length of the complete turbo the same. Someone thought that 6131 is a 1/4 inch longer than a stock 86/87 and that would push my dp 1/4 inch closer to my heater box. That may pose some difficutly for us hot air folks as downpipe space is REAL tight, especially with a 3" Mease DP.

Thanks,
Nathyn

3 3/8" measured as accurately as I could.

This pic also shows that there are a few "nubs" on the casting that add another 1/4" in several spaces.....

I was close. I did measure from one of those nubs sticking up.
With regards to the turbo moving around because of size, it's the compressor cover that this pertains too, not the turbine housing. The turbine housing was designed to maintain the same position when bolted up to the factory header. Some CHRAs are narrower, such as the GT3255E, and others that have larger compressor covers will put the inlet closer to the up pipe. But the only time a downpipe could be moved out of stock position, is when you change to aftermarket headers that will require a different downpipe in order to clear. IE: a downpipe that was bent to clear ATR headers will be bent totally different than one that's for stock headers.

Great, thanks for all this info and the effort you guys have made to get it. It is exactly what i needed.

Does anyone have a stock 86/87 turbo that they could take the same measurements so i could compare?

Thanks again,
Nathyn

thanks for posting it up i can messure my Ta-54 if u need. as far as the stock turbo im pulling one off tomorrow so if noone post i will post the messurement tomorrow

Boost231, if you could post those measurements of the 86/87 stock turbo I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Nathyn

ok my Ta-54 looks like 3 1/2 from the center and the stock 87 3 1/4 from center and the GT6131E looks like 3 3/8
