I am looking for a pic of an intake still on the car, of a completly stock Turbo Trans Am. I don't know if you guys remember, I had my car detailed and the chemicals that the guy used turned my intake white. He is claiming that it was like that before I went there and I am about ready to start cracking some skulls! If someone has a pic of one, that would be great if they could send it to me.

Thanks in advance,
Walt

Walt,

I can take a picture....Or, I'll come up to Denver and we can drive over to the detailer and show him what a stock engine really looks like-I need to visit mom and dad soon anyway....How did the chip work?

Haven't tried the chip yet, but I doubt that will do any good. The guy is a major flake! I'll send you a copy of the letter that I sent him. They guy is just a two-bit loser and I am ired of dealing with him. I want to take him to small claims court, but I don't have any before/after pics. Maybe if you had one that I could use, but I don't know. GRRRRRRR! Not really much I can do! He is not registered with the Better Business Bureau either.

I'll gladly take one for you. PM me tomorrow (so I remember) and I'll take a few hi-res ones in the daylight for you.

There is no degreaser out there that (unless put on hot, and left to sit) should turn it white. He must be an exceptional calibur of retard.

Yea, he was and it was. I asked him if he should let it cool down more and he said, "naw, it'll be fine". Well, needless to say, it looks this color now:

I mean, it is WHITE! The guy claims to have done this to 4 other engines since and he says that it hasn't done it.....that no one has complained. What a crock!

Very strange. What a bout the dog house? Was that turned white as well?

Never seen that. But never was dumb enough like this guy to put it on hot. I used to own a high-end detail shop (for exotics/celebs). or maybe that's usually fine and I was just too anal. I was usually more worried about cracking the block or heads with cool water on hot metal/aluminum.

Just curious. Since in theory it should have damaged other like materials (hence the dog house Q).

Also, I would *hope* that's just residue. Have you tried/been successful at removing any of it? If so, there are some products I'd recommend using with a high power pressure washer to remove it. Carefully of course.

The doghouse and intake are only painted silver. If you use a strong pure degreaser like Purple Power that is high concentrate it will strip the paint. I started using the Purple Power on my intake once and it started to eat the paint off and turn it white. I'm guessing that's what happened here. Of course I stopped right away so it's not noticeable at all.

Well, the rest of the intake, all of it, under the doghouse and all, is white. It also changed the proportioning valve for the brakes white and the turbo shield too! I cleaned up the shield housing with mothers aluminum polich (now it is shiny) and the proportioning valve i did too. The intake I tried scratching, I tried polish, i tried acid (yes, acid) to get the white stuff off. Nothing! The only thing that I had any luck at all with was a scotch-brite pad, and that only evened out all the drip marks from the degreaser. The owner of the shop came down to my place to inspect it, since his son is the one who detailed it. After 3 missed appointments, he showed up 45 minutes late, and used the same stuff I told him I allready used, but he said, "Well, if it REALLY needs fixed, I'll fix it. But I don't have the money to do so right now...so maybe we could arrange some sort of payment thing, like 50 bucks a month or so." What do I look like? A freakin' bank! Oh yea, and I was going to have to pay for it to get beadblasted and have the intake removed BEFORE he would send any money.

I've never detailed (other than mine) a TTA or any turbo buick motor. So I honestly can't say with any experience other than what others have said.

Just before I opened the detail shop (12-13 years ago ), I had an 86 TA (40k miles). I cleaned the motor. But, in the process I F-d up the cooling fan motor. I washed it hot. The fan motor was still running. With the pressure hose, I somehow F-d up the fan motor. That was one of my many hard learned lessons... Had a hell of a time driving it until I fixed it! That's for sure. Learned early...

I'll provide you with any/all pics you need.

The *only* difference between mine and stock is a (covered/housed/un-noticable) blue cable for stereo equip and battery (yellow top Optima). Which, I have the stock one and can change, then take pics for you if that's needed.

I'll take the pics (PM me and/or call me tomorrow!) for you. let me know if ANYTHING I take is different than yours. I'll adjust accordingly.

VERY sorry you have to go thru this crap.

Let me know how I can help. This blows chunks.

M

** By the way, your picture cracks me up. There's a guy I work with that's just like that guy. Laughing my a$$ off! **
