I know this is probably a hot topic and one that 99% of those reading this thread will probably agree on. Methods will surely vary but it seems to me and most Americans that this lunacy needs to come to an end before the majority of poor Somalians see this as a tremendous business venture with a very lucuretive income.
By the numbers they currently hold over 600 hostages and 30 vessels the latest being a family with two kids.
Recently murdered 4 Americans while we simply denounce their behavior. These ransoms in the millions that companies have paid will if not already start affecting prices of goods/oil whatever that we pay.
It seems to me in the best interest of any country involved in shipping that something should secretly be deployed to virtually wipe out every boat/ship vessel along the Somalian coast except for small dingys with oars.
Sooner or later the ones that get millions in ransoms are going to reinvest into better ships bigger engines, better weapons and start venturing out further from land for their easy "prey".
Besides at this point the US needs to step up and make a quick statement since everything else we seem to be involved with just drags on and on and on....(Having served in Vietnam I get the picture).
Frankly I find it hard to believe it has been allowed to exist this long on such a huge scale. Killing of the 4 Americans that really shows they don't care about anyone after all what possible ransom would they be worth outside of what their family and friends could raise? That should have been the "straw that breaks the camels back."
That should have been the trigger for our government and others to say enough is enough. We got all these huge war ships....why spend millions of dollars on exercise runs when ours military can exercise the real deal and see instant results.
How many millions of dollars will we let them take from various shipping companies and continue to simply say we denounce their actions?
comments welcome.....which will probably run stronger than my words!

I am reminded of the quote the one Japanese General said after the successful surprise bombing of Pearl harbor. He said something like "I am afraid we have woken a sleeping Giant"
I apologize for not knowing the exact rank or quote but you get the idea.
The same can also hold true for what is now happening in Libya. Although I can see why the US has to restrain from that turmoil. That is a whole another topic.
