Does anyone out there know where I can get a fixed(tapered bore type) piston ring compressor for a 3.8" bore? Tried Summit: don't carry it. Nothing local either. I hate the crank-down and plier types. Thanx for any help! ;)

TA can make you one, but it won't be cheap. I asked about getting one for my 4.1 with its 3.995" bore and actually talked to Tom directly by chance and he likes the rachet type for "odd" bore engines.

Just some info,

I wonder if K/B is any easier to get hold of than they used to be? I suppose it's worth a try. There's a rumor they've abandoned T/Rs. Someone out there HAS to be manufacturing a tool for this bore!

if you find one, i need one also please let me know asap

May sound crazy, but we used to use clamps. But thats on harleys, and I am sure the tolarances arent as close.

I've done that on My Harleys too, but that's cause the cylinders drop onto the pistons. It'd be a bitch trying to get a fixed bore compressor tool out from between the jug and the bottom end! ;) Actually- I put Keith Black's in my bike and the clearance was .002"(a bit closer than what I've got on this beasty).

OK- So here's my next question: The TotalSeal compressor closest to my bore is 3.81" according to the part number. My bores are 3.801". Are my rings going to hang up on the top on my cylinders because of the .009" larger bore of the tool? In other words: Is this the right tool for a standard bore 3.8 Buick? I'd hate to screw up my new Plasma Moly ring set!

i think it goes by piston size not bore, get the adjustable one?

That's good info. I wish I weren't in such a blasted hurry. I suppose I'll just end up getting an adjustable compressor at Sears. I disliked the last one so much: I gave it away! Oh well- this is what I get for not planning ahead. Thanx for the suggestions guys. ;)
