I'm rebuilding my motor (new bearings, gaskets) and was wondering if I'm going to need new piston rings? The pistons have 80,000 miles on them. The motor was not burning any oil when I pulled it (spun a bearing).

This is one for a more experienced engine builder then me but IMO you got lots of miles out of it. Seems like it might be a good idea to see if it is possible to finish the cylinders and still be good for the pistons - if yes, put some new one's in there.

Take a DAMN GOOD LOOK at them pistons! Cracks can be hard to see

X2 Maybe a hone & fresh rings? Maybe a bore will be needed at 80K

Mic up the piston skirts to make sure they haven't collapsed. You can use a ball hone to deglaze the cylinders and install new rings.
