Anyone have any experiece good or bad? What companies to buy and not buy. What to look for/must have. I hate to spend alot of dough and not get the right one. I always researce major purchases but am out of my leage when it comes to audio an computers.

Take a look at LCD projection tvs. They are same quality at 1/4 the price.

A great place to read and research is:

www.avsforum.com

Go to their plasma and flat panel section and you will learn all you need to know.

You can find great looking 42" plasmas for around $2,000.

take a look at DLP projection.....much cheaper and just as good a picture (Samsung)

I was torn between DLP and LCD when I was looking. Ended up with a Hitachi 61" LCD and couldn't be happier.

I just bought a small (15") LCD tv for our kitchen, and after researching, ended up buying the Sharp Aquos. It is a nice looking tv, and has a great picture.

My situation is this my living room/dinning room is a long narrow shape. The living room portion is 11'x13'. Ive ran the TV both ways but putting the couch acrross the room doesnt leave much room to walk around the ends and divides the room in half. The problem I see is most TV's are 24"-26" deep and I cant give up the room. I had "heard" that LCD TV's were suppost to be used as small units around 30" or smaller? After that the picture get blocked or pixeled??? I did see some digital projections that were about 12" deep and would be OK.

yea stay away from plasma. we have a few dozen of them where I work and they last 5 years and just die. When I called Sony for service on them they told me to throw it out. I think we paid over 8K a set too. Gotta love spending someone else's money :) LCD DLP the only way to fly. 2nd gen plasma might be a little better.. but from what I see DLP seems to be the ticket. As azgn said Samsung make some nice stuff. We have several of them here and I like them all. I'm in the boradcasting feild so most of these are on 24 hours a day non stop. The Samsung's seem to hold up the best. But since the first plasma died we turn them off as much as possible now.

I have been through the same process with TV purchases recently. I ended up buying the LCD (Sony 42" WEGA) and I love it. The resolution is much higher than a plasma of similar cost. What I found out was that all Plasmas are not created equal and to get a really good one was going to cost you $6k and up. A very good LCD is $2500 to 3500 depending on your screen size. I am very pleased with my Sony (so far). I think it was a better purchase for the money. Good luck. Oh it is only about 13 inches deep.

I'd like to buy one and hang above my fireplace. What did you guys do to hide the wiring?
