Jim, there are two small plastic lines going down beside the passenger fender as you describe. One is actually carrying vacuum in and comes from the vacuum ball under the drivers fender and the other is coming out and connects to the heater water cut off valve behind the passenger side valve cover under the hood.

The line coming from the vacuum ball goes to the vacuum switch that is attached to the the back of the ac/heater control under the radio. This line is purple under the dash.

The line to the heater control valve under the hood is actually gray under the dash and it also goes to the vacuum switch.

Neither of the two go to vacuum diaphrams.

There are three diaphrams, I believe, under the dash. One of them is for recirculation of outside air...it has a orange line going to the vacuum switch.

Another diaphram has two lines on it. It is the a/c diaphram, it has a red line and a yellow line...both to the switch.

The third diaphram is the defroster, it has blue line on it going to the switch.

actually, all these lines may go to a vacuum block that feeds the switch.

Hope this makes sense.

You understand I am talking about the heater control valve that the heater hose runs thru under the hood? :)

It stops the flow of water thru the heater core.

My heater control valve under the hood behind the passenger side valve cover is a manual valve with a black manual control knob. Connected to one line on the heater core. I don't know if this is factory or an after market valve. Things are getting clearer though. :)

No, that is aftermarket....the line that was plugged onto your wastegate solenoid is probably the line that is supposed to got to the valve. It must be plugged off or your controls will not work....you don't need to know how I know this!

yeah i think your right about that second line, it would go to the heater control valve. I tried my vent controls and they don't seem to be working, so i guess thats the problem

Any idea of the part # for the heater control valve that i am missing ( on the heater core line ) ??

Its not shown on the dealer diagram!

I took off the plastic housing that houses the computer and was able to see the exit of the grey and the purple line thru the fire wall, how it connects to the black plastic (under-hood) vacuum line under the heater box i have no clue, The only way i could to see to access this would be to take off the plastic inner fender.

Btw: your the Heater God steve , thanks

I guess I have to fall down and admit feet of clay here. I don't know the number. I don't recall if I bought the last one at the dealer or at a parts store. I think Poston and Kirban used to stock them.

Ok, so how do you push that thing down into the box? I've tried using a screwdriver to push down, but it didn't seem to work. Does it have to be turned a certain way? Or do you just have to beat it down. I've dumped everything outta the glove box once more.....

roc87 the "thing" (plastic pivot) has two little tabs on the shaft at the bottom. They are exactly 180 degrees apart and are used to keep the thing from pulling out. They kindof look like fins on a toy rocket. When the piece was installed i guess they line up with slots in the hole and then they push the lever down and turn it. So your shaft should all ready be down and turned . I found mine was pretty much stuck in the hole and had to push on it very hard. I used a short brass rod and held it with pliers to push down with!!! It wouldn't go at first so had smucked it a lil harder. Maybe a short rod and some visegrips would work better. I had to take my heater/ac box apart anyways later and i found the little sucker sitting in the bottom stuck in the factory sealant/goo. Good luck from novice heater land.

anyone have the part # i am looking for Grrrrrrrrrrr

I got my eplacement HCV from Pep Boys. Cheap looking plastic, but I like it better than the corroded old one...

my heater mode arm broke too.i took a pick heated it up and stuck it into the broken arm and pulled it out. it worked great. i installed a new one and it works great now.

Lever 3037629

I ordered the plastic hinge lever, part # 3037629, just like Steve Wood said to do. My problem was I wasn't getting a blend of hot and cold air. Turned out my lever was broke. After turning and pulling up on the little piece of plastic shaft that I could grab with my fingers, it finally pulled out. I put the new one in and it works like new again. Thanks Steve and Red for your advice! If you haven't fixed yours yet, I would recommend that everybody order this part before GM discontinues it. I could see how the "L" shaped bracket would work, too.
