How would I make the ground connection to the connector. What tool and wire connectors would I need? I have also heard there is a tool to take those connections out of the plug? What is that tool?

I will be installing a PLX in the near future, and will have more data on this.

But, I would not connect that "ground" connection to the ECM. What I would do is to make sure the PLX power wiring is as short as practical, and is connected to a good (engine) ground and not some body/dashboard bolt.

So I will be powering my PLX from the ignition voltage feed wire to the ECM (A6) and grounding it to one of the large black/white ground wires (A12).

Then I will only make the one analog connection as you have shown it above.

I'll post back once its installed.

Bob,

Why got to a plx vs. AEM, besides plx allows for different modules and bluetooth! Please advise

'87 Turbo T w/E85, 224/224, ported iron heads and intake, 80 lbs injector, TE45A, GEN II, TT and EXTENDER EXTREME G, XP Double pumper and something secret, 86 T-TYPE (Kenne Bell test car) and '11 Tundra Limited Sent from my iPhone using Turbobuick

oh, its a long story.

a friend liked my LC1 + XD16, so I decided to trade to something else.

TurboDave and TurboPete both have the PLX. And I got the DM6 gauge to go with the PLX.

I have some ideas for new toys in the future, and might try to talk to the PLX over the digital link.

Sweet... Keep me informed. I was going to go plx instead of the aem... Then decided that multiple modules would be a pain. But I like the opportunities plx offers and bluetooth.

yeah, their stuff seems decent. The bluetooth/wifi stuff is their OBD-2 hardware. None of that applies to us. The DM6 gauge seems cool though.

Bob

I think that you could tie the scanmaster/powerlogger into that gauge.... Amongst other things!

conceivably, although that's not what I was planning.

Bob, I just got my PLX in the mail yesterday....Will be installing soon...I have a fuse block that is mounted to the back side of my glove box to reduce clutter in the factory fuse box.....Should I not use that fuse block behind the glove box to power the PLX?? Why hook it up to the feed wire to the ECM (A6) ??? Going to be hooking this up to my power logger as well.....I also got the standalone gauge as you did!!

1, that lower left corner pin in that 4 pin connector IS NOT GROUND (at least in the newer SM-AFR's), its one of the power feeds to the DM6 gauge.

2, you can get power from anywhere, the ground connection is the important one, to minimize voltage offset issues.

Ok, I'll just get the power from the fuse block since it's in a convient location....If you have a stand alone guage as we do you need to plug a harness into the analog input, so you couldn't follow the illistration above to ground it correct?? Just find a good ground and use the black wire that is with the power wire that plugs in and powers the unit right?? Also if you plug a harness into the analog of the PLX do you tap into that wire in the lower right hand corner to hook up to the power logger??

The Sensor is not grounded??? I made that drawing IAW page 3 on the attached manual:

Should I disconnect my sensor ground wire?

Dave,

Go to the plx website and refer to the sm-afr GEN2 manual (only one I see under Support). It only wants the wb signal out, no ground made at that connector. I have the newer version so that's how I made the connection to powerlogger. I don't know what the differences are between GEN1 and GEN2.

Right, I have both manuals. The one I attached is for earlier versions like mine.
