What might be a reason(s) why my dad is noticing smoke rolling from his exhaust only at idle??? He has a new 1800 mile motor that didn't smoke before. A PT-52 that PT&E just rebuilt 1800 miles ago, and fresh headjob at motor rebuild. Seems that it rolls smoke at idle only, but goes away at any throttle postion past that??? His plugs were black as coal with about 1800 miles on them. Does this sound like a turbo oil seal? A broken ring? Bad valve seal/guide? Bad 009 injector(s), Bad PCV valve? Any opinions will be appreciated. I'm posting this for him, so direct all responses to this board or jarsr48@hotmail.com.

Thanks!

Well if it was a ring only one plug would be fouled. My guess is it is smoking all the time and you can only see it at idle. Do a full compression/leak down test, you will find that none of the rings are seated properly, or it could be the turbo. Pull it off and have a look
