A little off topic, and probably of no interest to many in here, but i wanted to ask.

I have been into grand nationals since I read a car and driver article on one in 1986, I have had two, currently one, it's just probably my favorite all time car.

My question though is how many, if any, of you have a thing for Porsche 944 turbos?

I never owned one, did drive one, and really would like to get one. I know they will probably not have the straight line speed of the GN, but that does not bother me much.

Any thoughts?

Am I the only one?

I always liked the hated 928's.

They had the same tires I did in the early 90's Dunlop D40M2's.

Neither the Turbo 944 or the 928S really caught on like the 911 series has and continues to this day.

I guess the 911Turbo was the car to have. :)

me too,ive liked the 928's....owned an 944 ,long time ago blast to drive,non-turbo though.

I'd love to have a 944 turbo. The big problem is supposed to be the transmissions. They bring quite a premium

I've always wanted a old turbo slant nose..one day:)
Here is one at a car show a couple weeks ago..I'd do mine like this and squeeze a turbo in there..

i have always liked them, i wanted to buy a 944, add the turbo front bumper, and a gn motor. I has asked, i think it was renegade hybrids, about the gn motor years ago, they said it would be difficult.
I always heard it was the timing belts that were the issue. 944, 944 turbo, 944 turbo s, nice cars, slow by todays standards. I wouldnt mind one though. 928s4 is badass too.
Someone did the buick conversion some time ago, all custom parts, what a nightmare.

I owned a 944, not a turbo, but I have driven a Turbo. The problem with the 944 is the ride is stiff until you're over 70mph. Then the difference between 70 and 135mph is that you're doing 135 and the ride is really smooth.

Now the 928 on the other hand has a very smooth ride from start until as fast as it will go. I rolled though the gears to around 120 and the ride was fantastic.

The other problem with the 944 is book time is 13.5 hours to change the clutch 9torque tube). To achieve the 50/50 weight distribution, the transmission is coupled to the differential and travels though a torque tube to the engineIf you break the glovebox hinge that's $1500 retail.

The cool part about the glovebox is the ac system vents into it and there is room enough for a bottle of wine, which the glove box system is capable of chilling:D. I know cuz I've tried it.

Sad to say I rolled my 944 on its roof at 70mph. But I replaced it with a GN:D

Here is something many of you probably do not realize....

There is something turbo buick owners have in common with 924 and 944 and several other Porsches from that time period.

They all feed on a Bosch fuel regulator....well guess what years ago when we had the billet adjustable one designed for the turbo buick we had the same source make 4 different ones for various Porsche models that we sell to Porsche tuners....the typical Porsche owner usually has their mechanical chores done by a shop....

Funny part is....when I first looked at the idea I drove my turbo regal to a well known Porsche shop near me. As many of you know I have next to zero mechanical skills but I showed the shop owner the billet adjustable fuel regulator and explained to him we could do one for the Porsche market....he insisted it would not work.

I said I will get one made and give it to him to install on a customers car at no charge. I must have bugged that guy 2-3 months before he actually did it and was impressed....

Like the Porsche or not...if they fall one hp short of what they are supposed to be they dismantle the engine....

I run against a few with different cars...those cars just "plant" and flat out go....very little if any tire spin.....

Another unusual fact about Porsche...the Boxster models. They have that air vent on the side of each quarter panel....Think the Boxster came out in 1997...they soon discovered if the owner smoked the ashes and cigarette would end up getting sucked in the scoop....at some point I am not sure what year they altered the angle of the scoops on the quarter panels of the Porsche Boxster.....

end of stories...

Nope never owned a Porsche but one of the real bargains would be a 2001-2002 Boxster S model manual shift of course....driven them handling is fantastic and acceleration is more than adequate.

Porsche

I will own a 6 speed 968 Cabrio one day when the kids leave the nest. Untill then I need the room in the GN.

a buddy of mine just brought home a 30K mile 968 coupe and I must say, that thing is pretty cool!
