hey guys

my 87 gn has had the engine redone about a 1.5 yrs ago the motor was bored and all that mess and is .40 over the guy that redid the engine can't remember if it got a stock cam or something like a club cam 200/200

a friend of mine redone his engine and went with alum GN1's . So to make a long story short i got his ported irons at a great price :) but i'm limited on cash flow for a roller cam.

so basically what i'm asking is what kinda gains will i see with my current combo ( see sig) with a set of ported heads and a stock cam / club cam 200/200

is it worth pulling the motor out and swapping heads ?

I'm curious also. I just put Champion irons on when I lost a head gasket 2 weeks ago - still have stock cam. If no one else replies, I should be able to make it to the track on the 20th. It's closed to us regular guys this week due to the Mile High Nationals this weekend.

thanks

well i guess i'll find out when i swap my heads out thanks for repling

Anyone know the Lift on the Reed Club cam 210/205? That's what is coming with the Grooms shortblock and I'm curious how it would work with the VPE heads.

I can tell you this, I was all stock engine with v4r, te60, mds 50's, et streets, 21 psi. 210/205 cam. car went 11.56 with a popped gasket and had plenty left. Pount being is ported heads I could have done thtat on 19 instead 21 psi. all esle being the same you will have a much better running car. If it runs good, leave the cam alone, strap on the heads retune and run it. Worked good for me.

With Champion ported irons, club 200 cam and blue tops my car ran just as quick with about 2 or 3 lbs less boost. This was with the stock intake completely unported so there was probably more to be had there. You should definitely go faster with the ported heads and a good tune.

cam

i just put on ported heads and was going to stay with the stock cam because it was still good but i changed my mind because i wanted to take full advantage of the heads flow. If you don't have money for the roller stay with what you have.......................................................................Bob

I am rubbing my crystal ball and I see an ATR roller cam in your future. I have his number if you re-consider!!!! YEA!

Johnny ;)

Anybody know if the 200/200 club cam is still avaiable anywhere?

Wow! Impressive sweet6.. im just working on a simple quick street build so gonna roll the dice with flat tappet, either 200/200 or 194/204

You won't gain enough over the stock cam to be worth it. The stock cam, if I remember right, is a 194/196 so you won't do much. Going roller will give you more time with the valves open even with the 206 roller. Rollers work differently and the duration may be the same but the ramp opens the valve faster and keeps it open longer.

Charlie the stocker is the 193/197 .. atleast i think so

True but it all depends how you want your car to perform, it will retain low end power wich is something I know many here wish they had back after thinking bigger was gonna be better
