Possible for Late 86 TR to have 87-Style RPO Sticker?

I'm looking at a late-production 86 T-Type that has an 87-style RPO sticker (PN 1405266). Has anybody seen this before? All other 86s I've seen have the clear-overlayed PN 14065987 style sticker. Just trying to determine if this was a legit late engineering change and that there isn't any funny business going on with a repro sticker. The VIN on the sticker matches the plate and Carfax came back good. The codes on the sticker match the options on the car and the sticker does have some "patina" to it.

It's possible that GM switched suppliers at some point. So long as the VIN# and all the options seem to match, I'd say it's legit.

Yes GM did put the 87 style labels on the 86 models. I have some excellent information over on the other site, you know the one with a t,a 6 and a p.

Found the info and it appears to have answered the follow-up question that I had as well.

This car has the 87-style sticker and it also does NOT have any "J" code for a brake option. I noticed that the 86 GN example in the article does not have any "J" codes either. Apparently this was not un-heard of? Was that just a mistake by whoever typed the labels?

Kinda bummed now because I had planned on taking today off to go buy the car (about 500mi away) but didn't from being spooked by the label.

At A recent car show I saw an 86 with the clear cover decal.

I myself on my 86 have one with no cover. I have also seen other 86's with out the cover

I haven't figured out the J codes yet. I've noticed some have it and some don't. It doesn't make a difference when they were built either. The earliest 86 I have seen with the 87 label had a April 86 build date but I have also seen a May 86 with the old style label and both were Pontiac MI built cars. The labels are printed by computer and I am still trying to get some info from GM and Buick but I've seem to have hit a brick wall with them. My goal is to someday put all this information into a book but with out reliable sources it is purely a guessing game at this time.
