Guys, there's a 9 gauge dash from gnxdash.com on fleabay rt now, but the starting bid is too high !

eBay Motors: GNX-TYPE DASH CLUSTER Turbo Buick Grand National T-Type (item 120192058669 end time Dec-09-07 12:00:00 PST)

I installed one when Performance was in business. What the guy on ebay doesn't know is that (those dashes are like trying to find hens teeth) it took 7 weeks to get it after I had payed for it. Then there were things I had to get like that black piece to the right shaped like a U. I had to search to get it. It was difficult to find at wreckers. And most guys wouldn't sell just that piece. Can you believe it?

Then you have to cut it in several spots, following the template that was sent. I wanted to keep the original, so I could sell it separately when/if I sold the car. Then I had to get the clear piece made that went over the gauges. I put in a similar extra light that lit when the alchy was activated. By the time I payed for all of this stuff + shipping, I was into it for about $1650.00 including shipping. Not even including trips to the wreckers and hunting for the extra bulb that cost a friggin' fortune.

If I had it I'd ask for more since all those parts that I had to hunt for are there. :) It always seems like the guys that make this stuff are always out of certain pieces. Weird. I had a long distance phone bill calling all the time, that would choke a giraffe.

Just make sure if you get one of the others, that they have that "U" piece and the clear one that goes over the gauges. I was stupid and sold the car with the gauges after all.

Without all the crap I had to put up with, I'd say that isn't all that bad, since all the stuff that (I) had to do is already there.

I did the speedo in white and the rest of the gauges in black. After I got it I wished that I had gotten all white gauges, because the black ones were hard to see. If you get one, I wouldn't get black because they're difficult to see at a quick glance. He also said that autometer was the way to go, as he had electrical problems ? with the other brands. HTH

Current Postons' GNX style dash with electrical VDO gauges (black or white face) for $549 (black face) == bargain!! Please (must) add $75 for white faced gauges... [per my 2007 catalog]

I wonder if you still have a choice of white or black gauges? They don't mention it in their online catalog. Poston GNX Dash

where?

Where do i find the poston'sstyle dash for 549? I went to postons and its like 695 or something like that

I do believe I'd give them a call (251-368-8577 should do it) & ask them why dash is listed at $549 (black gauges), + $75 for white ones, part #PE8494632, on p.9 of their 2007 catalog... They can best settle any discrepancies--answer additional ?'s you might have...

I had posted in the lounge a Youtube vid that I had come across about a DIY vacuum form with all parts bought at home depot, this guy was making starwars stormtrooper armor with forms he made out of wood and my thought was this.

I could very easy make a wooden form or two depending on what style we wanted Myself I want the Tach dead center....and maybe have the gauges inlaid or sticking out like their doing with subwoofers, if you go to you tube and do a search on vaccum forms there is complete how too vid.

really its not that hard to set one of these form things up and all I need is gutted cluster to redesign a mold out of wood cause id like to do it as one whole 2 part unit and not just a flat peice with gauges. then finding aftermarket wiring harness to tie in to the existing which might take a little research but not real difficult

you take a flat 1X whatever peice of wood and glue a couple 5inch round peices of wood 1x and some 2&1/4 or 2 & 8th which are quick cuts with hole saw and you have reverse mold

So could I get a thick enough mil of laminate and be able to work with or thin and be strong enough or would i have to double up on the face plate?...all things to consider...i dont know...yet

in the end if it could be set up and plastic cost is 15 bucks per unit and everyone gets a complete cluster minus gauges for? 50 bucks? and maybe you cut the holes as you add guages but there would be hole pattern to go off of but that way it wouldnt be ugly with big holes while saving money to fill em, but most of us already have our gauges spread throughout the car such as pillar and anywhere else i can stick em.

..hell im in...im not out to change the world..just my cluster

I need input though

I've got that old school Kenne Belle style instrument panel. Anyone know how many of these were made? On the clear plastic overlay its silkscreened Kenne Belle in white. For some reason all the guages are VDO but the speedo is an AutoMeter. Were these always aftermarket back then?

yeah they be aftermarket, and how many were made i have not the foggiest. the gnx came with the stewart warner gauges but lucky you with analog set up already

Well have about 230 miles now with the Postons dash, and for the most part it is working pretty good. Mine has the black gauges, and the only 2 things I have seen are, the boost gauge is not lit up like the other gauges and the needle on the speedo jumps around when driving. But there are instructions on how to re-calibrate the speedo.

So its good, but like I said before, I dont know how easy the install will be.

Poston Dash

I bought a VDO black face but it"s to cold to install now.I studied the instructions and you have to modify or cut the plastic housing that the speedo mounts to.However I was talking to another member and he said just unscrew that housing and screw the new housing in. I will keep everone posted. Forrest

Hope the Poston dash works out well for you!

Glad someone makes at least the one.

John Spina (Casper's Electronics) would be

the "natural", you'd think, to offer re-pro GNX dashes.

You know it'd be the best one ever made.
