Does every GN windows move really slow. I think my motors areon their way out. Does anyone know where a good place to get replacement good motors?

Do a seach. But to answer your question, yes, every buicks power windows are slow. There's things you can do to help that. There's the use of alternate motors (from I think an old regal) and there's harnesess that help with the speed as well. I got mine from kirbans. Never installed them yet.

I had to replace my driver side motor, and I did get it from Kirban. Now I have window races and the drivers side wins every time hands down!

It aint the motors that are at fault. Make sure you have enough voltage going to them. You can check the load at the big pink wire on the fuse block. If aint got at least 12V there than you need to fix that first.

Sorry, the motors are crap.:(

My original T-Type pass window is so slow [and has been since new 1986] that you can eat lunch while it goes up.

This was true with most of the G-bodies from that era.

The earlier G-bodies used a different regulator and motor that was spring-assisted, and it is not an easy change-over.

Try ...

going on a1electric.com, which offers a power window kit for the 79-87 g-bodies. It is my understanding that this kit, originally for mod'g manual windows to power, brings the window up to present day speed. another alternative is to purchase the replacement window motors from either advance auto or auto zone which are supposedly much faster than stock at around $55.00 each, depending on what part of the country your in. when I priced mine they were $59.00.

My burgundy T has the complete A1electric window kit which includes motors and regulators. It's available in Summit or Jeg's catalog for $250. I bought the car not knowing it had the upgrade. The first time I lowered and raised the windows, I couldn't believe it ... being used to what we're all used to. I'm pretty sure replacement stock motors are available at Autozone and Advance for about $50. While voltage is a problem, a new replacement motor may fix your problem.

Do the A1electric kits work with concert sound? I have a set of the older G-body motors/regs, but couldn't get them to fit with the concert sound door speakers...

Are you saying that the AutoZone replacement motors are faster than the factory ones? If so I am heading to AutoZone.

I tried that swap 10 years ago, with the older style G-body motors and regulators, and it didn't speed up the windows at all. Waste of time. Voltage is the culprit, not the motors.

So in conclusion here, as long as I have at least 12V of juice going to the windows and possibly new aftermarket motors, I should be in good shape, correct?

Look, when it rains it takes about 30 seconds to roll up the windows, which in my opinion is too long.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to increase voltage to the motors other than by re-wiring with a thicker gauge wiring. That's the problem. On the other hand, I've known guys personally who have installed re-built motors from Autozone/advance and improved the situation to their satisfaction. However, the best overall upgrade without question is the A1electric retrofit.

How?

If I understand what you mean, the pink wire must be the one that supplies power to the lift motors. And if that wire does not have good power at the fuse block, then it probably is a power supply problem to the fuse block.

If I got that right then there are probably other things suffering from low volts - I know my turn signals have slowed way down too.

Glad my fuel pump and battery have fresh 10 gauge to the ALT.

GM used the same motors since, well since forever on just about everything. I've got some cars(my Rivieras for example) that are lightning quick so I dont buy the 20YO worn out excuse crap. From my experience if you aint got enough voltage they will be slow. I followed your "its the battery, not the alternator" post on another thread. Ever notice how quick your motors get when you stuff a new battery in your car? How do you explain that? Here's another example. Late 80's,90's vintage GrandAms,Skylarks,Acheiva and others use the same motors only with a factory express down feature. I've never seen a slow one in the bunch and I've rented my share of rental cars back in the days. The only difference in these newer cars and the old dinosuars is the wiring. Again its back to voltage and amperage draw of the system.

I wouldn't use those 78 motors/regulators. It's the same as back dating technoligy IMO. In modern science speak it would be like going from digital to analog. There was a reason for the big spring on the regulator. Talk about slow and heavy motors.

I have in my possession some new window motors. They are a crossbred between the OEM style motor and the newer compact, more powerfull motors that are used in the new vehicles. I'm going to test them out to make sure they are indeed better(faster) than the OEM replacement. It will probally be the better part of a week as I have some other projects to finish. Plus I need to figure out if I can sell them at a reasonable price. Yep. Just like the e-bay headers these are made by the Chineese. Hopefully I'll post some good news here by the end of the week.

The motors I have look like the A-1 motors that John posted a pic of. Only they work with the stock regulators. They feel a tad bit faster when I bench tested them.
