Hello. New to this forum. Great info. Just bought 87 GN with 49000 miles on it. Been sitting outside, uncovered in yard in Maine for 13 years. Needs lot of attention. First seems to be brakes. Pedal is rock hard. Switch needs replacing. Jumped switch with wire and motor tries to run but does not. Can this motor be rebuilt? [MOTOR HUMS]. Any help on this will be appreciated. Had 87 GN in 91-92. Sold it due to domestic situation. Missed it ever since. Looking forward to bringing this one back to life as $$$$ permit. This site seems to have a lot of info and helpful members. I'm sure I'll begging for help a lot. Thanks in advance

Congrats on the purchase. And, get ready to empty your wallet like the rest of us!!:biggrin:
First thing I will say is do the spring cleaning found here:

The Grand National / T-Type / Turbo Regal Buick Spring Cleaning Guide

Next I will suggest you forget the powermaster brake system and convert to Hydroboost. Do a search in the brake section and you'll see why. The PM is an unreliable money pit.

Finally I wil say. READ, READ, and then READ some more!! There is so much info on this board and on GNTTYPE.org You could read for days....

Don't be afraid to ask questions. We all have a common interest in these beasts, so others are willing to help whenever they can.

GOOD LUCK!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

p.s. post your location so locals can help you out first hand too!!

You will get different opinions as to whether or not to trash the power master. Here is some advice...if you decide to keep it, you can buy a whole rebuilt unit from Kirban or Autozone. I know the AZ unit comes with a life time warranty. I've replaced mine a couple of times for free. There is also a guy who goes by gnpowermasters on ebay. I don't know much about him but he seems to have all of the parts for the powermaster. I assume you weren't able to test drive the car without brakes, so I hope you made a wise choice buyng that car. I also assume the underside is rusty. You should check the fuel lines (and brake lines) and make sure they aren't about to rust through.
