guys please help, driving on the highway for about 1/2 hour, get off to exit and no power assist for the breaks, luckily no one in front of me....scary.....baby the car home and find that the 30 amp fuse has blown....check around the powermaster unit and there is a trace of fluid on the passenger side (maybe dripped off when i clumsily removed top of unit) anyway i replace fuse and turn on the key, unit charges but draws down about 3 ounces of fluid on the passenger half, i refill, test drive and everything fine, car stops perfectly, no sign of fluid anywhere, checked line etc. What gives? Fuses rarely blow without reason and break fluid does not vanish into thin air! Any thoughts.....please respond.....kinda scared to drive it. also, how much do you fill the resevoir? the car is a 30k rarely driven gn...i did replace the accumulator ball about two years ago. thanks

Take the power master off and stash it in your garage and install vacuum setup. You got lucky. I was not so lucky. A guy pulled u-turn in front of me .I was doing 40 when i hit the brakes and nothing needless to say there was some damage and i had low miles on my car also. that is a crap design.and it is unpredictable. good luck to you

Two word answer - VACUUM BRAKES as stated above.

I'll Third the vacuum brake setup. It took 2 PM failures to get me to switch. Thankfully I wasn't in a "need" situation when they failed.

Fuses

Always have a variety of fuses in glove box. The fluid goes into acc. ball. Had a mechanic at Firestone try to take the lid off without depressurizing the system. Stopped him had him pump the brakes and resevoir filled up I'm sure he would have overfilled it, had I not been there watching...

i second the spare fuses, i believe that happened to my dad before i bought the car from him so i have several fuses in the glovebox!

mmm scary indeed... My brake light has come on a couple times since I got mine... I have a spare PM unit that came with the car... Did the brake light come on before this or did the thing fail without warning ?

no brake lite early warning here.....just no brakes!!!!! i did have my brake lite blink on every time i touched the brakes a couple of years ago but a new accumulator ball solved that problem....this is a completely different deal...i just took it out for another drive and blew the fuse twice more.....no accident due to very careful driving....limped home.....some fluid on the passenger side of the unit....i hate to make the switch to vacuum because the car is a 30000 mile basic stock creampuff but safety first....i have got to learn more about this...
