I have owned 2 TRs but am currently without one and have the itch again. I had an 84 and an 87 but really want another hotair. My questions is what is the average price of an 84/85 TR in decent shape running good? Also how much cash would it take to put that car into the mid 13's? of course I would like to achieve that performance level at 15psi max if possible. Thanks for any info.

Moe :)

last july i bought a 85 wh1 for 2800. The body is rust free as well as the floor boards and its a ttop car. Needs paint, int is in good to very good shape, all stock no mods, the only down side was it had almost 200k but the guy i bought it from had it since 88 and had all work done at a dealer, i have reciepts for over 12k all maint of course but the car runs exc it is my daily driver and still has the orig valve springs,t chain, oil pump, the only thing he did to the motor was valve cover gaskets and a new stock turbo. as far as how much to go 13 i dont know i am still working on it. just do your research and buy only the parts you need. you should be able to do it for less than 2500 in mods.

Just bought one up here in Canada for $8500. had it appraised a week later for $14,500, its a white T-type in mint condition with 25,000km

13s.....hmmm, I think those can be achieved with just bolt ons. Mostly basic stuff, injectors, fuel pump-hotwire, adj fuel regulator, new exhaust, bigger downpipe, maybe headers, new chip, probably a larger turbo...a TA33, I really think youd need to up the boost.....maybe put an alky kit on it, convert to an 86-87 ECM. More expensive than getting an 86-87 to the 13s, but possible nontheless. As for cost, somewhere around 2k or so....Just a guess...I lost track of how much I spent on my car....

13s can be had for little money. Fuel pump, chip, filter, more boost, and decent tires. I've seen it done twice. Or you can do an intercooler, fuelpump, chip, and filter and run easy 13s on pumpgas (less boost).

13 out of just that? Hmmm....hotairs are 15s stock...you can knock off 2 seconds with just those mods? By filter Im assuming you mean a K&N intake one? I forgot to mention that....I didnt think you could get 13s with so little work....I ran a 15 stock way back when....dunno what Id lay down now....havnt been back to the track since....

Thanks Guys. I figured about 10k should get me a nice 84/85 and the mods to get into the 13's. I definitely would not add an intercooler. I was thinking I could port the stock intake a bit and do more mods like that to get the extra power I need. I am hoping I can get back into TR's by the end of 2005. We'll have to see. Thanks again.

:D

Kent C - you just bought one? I noticed u are located in Ontario.

I got one as well....where are you located ?
Im near Oshawa

Actually I lied my Dad just bought one. He had an 84 Hurst Olds that was stolen mid summer and he bought the T-type as a replacement. I have an 85 GN though if that counts:D . My dad's in Oakville with the white T-type and I'm in Mississauga with the GN. good to see there are some other Hot airs around I was beginning to think we were the only ones:confused:

Kent there are some people who really like their hotair cars. I had an 84 and 87 but had more fun in my 84 which is why I want to get another one. I am hoping to get it by the end of this year. I have alot on my plate right now including suing some fool for alot of cash. Try and be nice and help a guy and he uses deciet to get what he wants and leave me out in the cold. Damn good thing I got a good lawyer.

I bought a 84 GN t-tops, 86K for $4000, put about $3000 mods in it. ta-33, atr headers,dp, few others. Got 13's. I bought most of this stuff new. If you watch you can get some good deals on used stuff.
Added spearco went into 12's.
Mines back close to stock and for sale.

I bought mine in Alaska for 3,200 dollars. Right know i am rebuilding the engine. The going rate for the hotairs seems to be an average of 4,500 dollars. The only thing is finding one you like. Hope you get one and good luck. Harry

My twin bro just picked up an 84 t-type, red, with the rare factory moon roof. His car had a rod knock, and he only paid 2500 for it. Body is in supurb shape, and only the top of the car needs a little sanding and maybe a clear coat. As for 13's, those are his exact goals. What will it take?

1. ADj fuel pressure Regulator (accufab by kenne bell, or a kirban billet style)

2. Walbro 340 with hotwire kit from racetronix

3. Adj wastegate

4. Exhaust!!! Headers (poston with x over is around $550), DP from ATR is 2.5", or you can go big with mease and never change it again should you get the speed bug. Mease pipe is 450 I think and is 3", bolts in place of the elbow.

5. Chip (jim testa, jay carter...etc.)

Get yourself a good set of tires, a K&N filter, and with 93 in the tank, 15 psi on the stock turbo (preferably rebuilt for pieceof mind), you can pull an easy high 13. Maybe even faster.

the day I bought my car, I took it directly to the track to know where I stood with the previous owwner's mods. a 13.89 was the slip at 98 mph's. The mods were poston headers, x-over, kenne bell 93 chip for hot air, K&N filter, ported exhaust elbow from the previous owner, adj fpr, walbro 307, and bfg drag radials. Car has a locking rear, which the kid added before me. That was all the mods. Top end remained untouched until I got a hold of it.

I am shooting for mid to low 11's, and as soon as I graduate college, the $$$ goes to the car!!!!

There is one on ebay right now that a guy is selling. Is an 85 T-Type. I am going out of my mind as it looks to be a real nice car and I am trying to scrape together enough cash to put a decent bid on it. Motor and Turbo are rebuilt. Ad says he is gonna donate it to charity if it doesn't sell. Gentleman has cancer that sounds terminal. :(

that car is in fl, isnt it? Seeing that pic and hearing the story, I would tell the guy COD only, and I wouldnt bid until I've seen the car in person, heard it run, and talken my own pics. That one pic of his is hardly enough to convince me, but, if it is a true story, I would gladly take it off his hands, and even donate somthing for his cause!!!!

I feel bad if his story is true. I lost three family members to cancer, and I even donated one of those family member cars to the childrens cancer fund.

I hope that car goes to good use, and if not, at least a good cause!!!

If I were in florida, I would take it in a heart beat!!!!

Thats the one John. I did talk to the guy via email. Seems genuine. I was thinking of changing my name to Local Charity and see if he bit lol. :D

I'll get one as soon as I am able to. It is the waiting that is killing me.

Moe

Good luck, see the car first!!!!
