I installed a coan manual valve body with trans-brake , trans- brake works ok, 1st , and 2nd gear is ok but when i shift to 3rd gear just locks up acts like it does in 1st gear with the trans-brake on, what in the world did i do wrong, any info, would be greatly appreated,

I'm assuming that the brake is an

external solenoid type? The solenoid goes where the old vacuum modulator use to be. If this is the case, check and see if the instructions have anything mentioned about the modulator valve location with the solenoid plunger pushed all the way in and then all the way released. It is very important that the modulator valve be in the correct phasing. You may have to shim the back of the modulator retainer {small washers betweeen the case and the modulator retainer} to get the right modulator valve phasing.

the trans-brake works like it is supposed to, the problem is 3rd gear, when trans, is shifted to 3rd gear it lockes up. feels like putting the brakes on hard.

The only thing that is stopping your

3rd gear is the low/rev band. Did the instructions have you remove the seals from the accum piston in the low/rev servo area? Did the instructions have you installing a 1/4" check ball in the feed for the accum?

seals were removed from accum, instructions never mention a check valve. when i took it apart the lugs were broke out of the case, i also had 4 rings on the center support. my other trans, has 3 rings, they left the third ring from support forward off,

How bad is the case?

Are you going to have to re-case the trans? You'll want to remove the center seal from the direct clutch and the 2nd {from the top} seal ring from the center support.

Under the low\reverse servo you'll see where the servo pin goes thru the case to the band, look around the accum bore {in the case} you'll see a drilled passage, take a 1/4'' check ball and drive it into the drilled passage. Now there will be no accum feed {just in case of a cross leak}.

yes case is no good with no lugs to hold the snap ring. i have plenty of cases. thanks ill look at it again for 1/4 hole in accum, bore area.

When you get a new case going

Get a .106'' Front Clutch snap ring from a Chrysler Torque Flight 727 an put it in place of the stock intermediate clutch snap ring.

a 2004r 4th gear snap ring works better.should have shopped on the board.odell.

CK LINE PRESSURE!!!!! Over 250 psi and it will do it again. You can save that case now tho. AND at the same time make it so it can never happen again.
