At WOT the 1-2 shift flares badly and it slips a little in 2nd. However, all other gears work great.

At part throttle, 2nd works fine, shifts firm, and the lockup works in 2nd.

Problem started happening after my CK Performance converter blew, and had a D5 put in.

I was hoping someone would chime in here as I seem to have the identical problem. Street driving and part throttle shifts are nice and crisp, but wot I get the same "flare" as you. I adjusted the TV cable a few times to try and firm up the wot shifts but to no avail. Trans shifts prefect under normal driving, and shifts at the correct mph between gears.
Funny, the trans seemed to shift alot harder BEFORE I changed the fluid (Ford) and filter. Should have left it alone I guess  thought I was doing a good thing.

You may need to drop the valve body and take a look at hte band where the anchor goes.
I ran into this with a car a few weeks ago.
It shifted awesome low speed but any decent throttle it would flare and slip
Pull the trans and the band was brand new BUT where the anchor grabs was blown out causing too much band clearance

I've read about this anchor problem before. I'm no tranny guy but, if this is the issue, I'll assume the tranny has to come out. Also, is the anchor pin/location an easy fix? Thanks, Jim

Are you having problems in just 2nd or all gears??

Well, to be totally honest, at WOT it dosen't upshift that hard to 2nd, 3rd or 4th. It's more noticable going from 1st to 2nd though.
The word "flare" describes the 1-2 shift best. Almost like the thing goes into a neutral state for a split sec...then slides into second. I hate it!

Well if it actully holds second once it flares in than the band is most likely ok.sound like you need to get a pressure gauge on the trans and see what it reads
