I know people have had turbine issues with the 51 series turbos, but does the same apply to the 52's as well? Just curious, my 51 is still workin, but it is pretty new and i havent really started to push it at all. When I want to really start seeing boost I'll probably go ahead and go TE44.

You should be able to get to 24-25 psi. safely. :)

Can't see buying another one til it breaks. ;)

What's your point? You have a PT51 and your contemplating a PTE52 or a TE44 upgrade:confused:

Don't know about everyone else but so far my PT52 has been fine. Typically run 24-26 psi. I've had it for a little over a year.

Yes, I have a TA-51 (came on the car). I don't really want to stick with it if its going to break when i run the piss out of it. Thus, I was considering a PT-52 or just a TE-44 so I can forget about it. But I guess theres nothing wrong with the "run it till it breaks" idea either.

regards,
John

I had a 52.It lasted 8 months before it spit the turbine into the downpipe at only 17#.

51-52 same wheel

i would take a stock one or something and carry it in the trunk and go run the .... out of it it shouldnt hurt anything when it breaks if it does break since its exaust side it just makes a mess inside the exaust.

after all that broke on mine motor is still fine

51 and 52 are not the same exhaust wheels. They are from the same manufacturer and are called GT350 wheels, but they are not the same wheel. This is as per John Craig and the turbo builder @ PTE (can't remember his name).

same wheel different trim ...so the blades are trimmed differently still same wheel to start with :p

I have about 2 k street miles,fourty 1/8 mile passes,four 1/4 mile passes,at 24 lbs boost and the pt 52 is still intact.Car runs 7.0s in the 1/8,and ran 10.98 in the qt.Jim:)

Ta 51

I talk to someone at John Craig's,a few days ago. He said he thinks that thing with the 51 aN 52 GOT BLOWN OUT, A LITTLE.He said they only got one of those turbo in for rebuild. I have a 51, and I was thinking of haveing it redone, works gerat but I was hearing all the bad things about the turbos so I said befor it goes let me get it done. he said he did not think there was a need for it,

fwiw,dan powell runs 30+ psi on his 52,has been for a couple of years.plus a sh!tload of timing:eek: .

it's an older turbo tho,i still think it may be a "batch" problem:confused: .

maybe only 1 of the 51-52's he built but i know of more than that thats been to him blown up..

2 where mine and twice that i called there while mine were there they told me another one came in so there's 4 and a couple others emailed me stating the theirs were gone to J.C's but far as i know none of them were built by J.C to begin with.

BTW: the 2 vendors are tighter friends than admitted..believe me i know..
