Ok, try as I might, I cannot seem to fit the tank and regulator assembly on the shelf of the trunk. The gauges are simply too tall. I peeled the carpet back to help but still no dice. I thought about setting it up so the gauges were upside down, but then the solenoid hits. Naturally it fits with the gauges on an angle, but they're harder to read that way. I'd prefer to mount the tank in the middle of the shelf so I can put speaker boxes on either side. How did you guys end up mounting your setup? Any pictures would be helpful.

It's all in the angles

Ian,
They do fit, but yes, tilted at a slight angle. If you like, I've been told by a reliable source of another mounting option, but it requires a copule additional parts and some more work on your part. I haven't personally tested this mounting setup yet, so I cannot say 100% for sure it will work for you...but I trust my source and believe it will work.

1) get 90* elbow with 1/4 NPT male - 1/4 NPT female ends from hardware store.
2) get straight piece of pipe 3 1/2" - 4" long with 1/4 NPT male fittings on both ends
3) remove brass propane inlet pipe from the regulator
4) Thread the 90* elbow into the high pressure inlet on the regulator
5) Thread the propane inlet pipe into the 90* elbow

This now has the regulator hanging alongside the tank with about 1/2" - 3/4" of clearance. The gauges will be "sideways" by 90 degrees because of the rotation of the regulator body.

6) thread the extension pipe into the outlet of the regulator
7) connect the solenoid to the extension pipe

Continue to connect the stainless steel feed line as described in the instructions.

Does this help, Ian?

Dan

Yes, it does...thanks. Anyone done this before? I'd like to see how it looks.

Visualizing it in my mind (Yes, I can do that), it sounds like it would work quite well.

I did mine just as prescribed, on the package tray. It is all in the assembly... you can't snug up the regulator to the tank until it is all laid in place, just "put it together", then little by little you make the adjustments needed to get the "gauges" to stand up right. Mine fits, with the carpet in place. Still have to lean into the trunk to get a reading. ;)

That's what I did too, the 90 degree fitting. Looks nice and fits MUCH nicer!
