Hi Guys,

Anyone know tech stuff for PS2's?? My son's is making a clicking sound when he inserts a disc. It is a steady clicking and it won't read games or DVD's. Any info would be appreciated.:D

Sounds like the laser arm is shot. I've used a guy out in California for PS2 repair. If you're interested in sending it off, PM me and Ill give you his contact info.

ask around and see about having it upgraded to play burned games, not like i know anyone or anything...but ive heard of it;) ,also ive heard of the old xbox upgrade that lets you store over 300 games and like 30 movies and never enter another game or dvd again, unless its to copy to the xbox...like i said this is what ive seen/got/i mean heard...p.m me if you need any help....

A new PS2 is only $129...so it might be cheaper just to buy a new one. Also if you have a Gamestop or EB games they do sell referbished ones for less.

Refurbished....But try game exchange...They advertise around here for cheap used ones.

I heard that this was happening to the older ones. they also give disk read errors. from what I have heard there is a recall on some units. maybe try calling sony, tell them youre getting disk read errors and they may fix the unit for free, under the recall.

Mine's been doing that for a couple of years. I give the ps2 a few lite taps while its trying to read the disk. If that doesn't work I give it a few smacks, and if that doesn't work, I bang it a couple of times. Usually get the game to work. I've also stood mine on end a couple of times to get it to read. My ps1 had the same problem. It would work fine if I turned it upside down. You cant do that with the ps2 though.

PS2's actually have a lot of problems with the disc reader. There are a lot of homebrew fixes, calibration techniques, etc that have popped up over the years to fix Sony's shortcomings. Even the newest slimline PS2s have problems.

Personally, I like the older PS2s that you can use the network adapters with. Makes it easier to install a hard drive :)
