They are custom built for each application. Buying one from somebody will net you little since it wont be ideal for you combo unless you copied their build and tune

Bison, we (or the requestor) should get that opinion directly from Dusty. The reason I say this is that I got a 9.5" NL from PTC (Dusty) and I very definitely felt that I got one off the shelf...not "custom" built for my specific tune. I don't mean that in a negative way...

A month or so later during my converter installation I found a blown head gasket...one thing led to another and I ended up swapping engines...going from stock bottom end and stock cam to a stroked 249 cu in with a 218/212 roller cam. I asked Dusty if I need to change converters due to this engine change, and the answer was no...

Now the "shelf" may have 3, 5, 8 different types of converters for different tunes (I don't know), but to say that my converter was built for my specific tune, IMO, isn't accurate.

Eticket...I recommend you contact Dusty Bradford (which is also his nickname on this site) and ask. He seems like a really good guy to work with.

I've considered all of this. Still looking to see if there's a used one out there.

Dusty knows that I will go to him if I choose to buy a new one. As a matter of fact, there was a PTC NL that sold just a few months back that was perfect for me. I was just beat out by a few minutes.

Looking for a PTC - mostly preference.

I realize there aren't many out there, but just throwing this out there.

Thanks though, John

By tune I think Bison is meaning your goals. I do change the set-up depending on what the customer wants. Some guys with a 70mm want quicker spool-up and launch from a footbrake. Some with the same combo my shift at a lower rpm but launch with a transbrake. The converter is initially spec'd for each car. Of course there are converters that can work in several different cars depending on their combo. If a customer changes combo's I would never suggest changing converters before trying it with the new set-up unless it's a drastic change. By gathering data with the current converter, it can be adjusted more accurately if needed.

The free restall is to make adjustments if I miss the set-up or the combo doesn't work as I predict it would. It's not for combo changes so in the customers best interest I would not charge them for a restall before gathering data with the current converter. You put the new combo together, test it with the current converter and then the proper adjustment can be made. If we made an adjustment before ever running the car and it happened not to work just like you prefer, it would require another change. Testing it with the new combo will save trouble in the long run.

Thanks Dusty. You know what i'm up to and you know that this car hasn't been my priority. Still trying to save pennies for something else.

Looks like there's going to be a TSM race in Oklahoma this year.

hmmm...
