That belongs to this here mechanism. It's a safety of some sort.

Some builders remove it and the ballbearing.

I can't see it being good that piece removed and the ball still in place.

Some one else will fill you in better on what it's for.

It's part of the mechanism for the T.V. exhaust check ball. It's there to prevent the transmission from being damaged from low line pressure in case the T.V. cable becomes disconnected or broken. If the cable breaks the check ball will seat and fix the line pressure at about 140 lbs. to keep the clutches from burning. Is the transmission operating normally? If so then maybe the check ball has been removed so it's not really an issue. If you are having shifting issues ...abnormally firm shifts...then maybe the check ball is still in place and you will need to put those parts back in or remove the check ball.

Since this is a safety why would anyone want to remove this? Is there a benefit in a performance situation?

I just put it back. Thanks for the help guys. I put in a ck performance vb in november, must not have gotten in back in correctly. Good thing I needed to pull the pan to put a hardened stator support in.

If it wasn't shifting hard/late with it out then the check ball isn't in the vb. It requires the ball to be there to work properly

go to page 5 . . . . . TV Exhaust valve and spring . . . . . scroll down . . . . . SSedan 64 posted a link . Very good discussion on this if you can find it .
