I'm changing my lifters and I was wondering if I should pump them up before installation. What do you guys suggest?

I soak them submerged in oil overnight....
So what does that do for you other than oil the outside of the lifter?

Just get some EOS from GM and coat them with your fingers as you slide them in. Pre-oiling before firing it up with a few rotations by hand is all that should be needed.

What do you think...lifters are air tight?...soaking them lets some oil get inside...have heard it helps them pump up a little faster...maybe it's true...maybe not...IMO every little bit helps especially when dealing with the valve train components...

Over the weekend when I was doing a cam install, the question came up of soaking the lifters like we did in "old days". The cam kit comes with special lube with instructions to liberally put on cam lobes and lifter base.

Now if I took the lifters out of a pan of oil and put on the special lube [which has extreme pressure additives] what good would this do? The oil would "protect" the lifter base from soaking the special lube.

Since I ran up oil pressure for over 5 minutes with a drill motor before starting, they were "pumped" when started.
